I'm afraid I might be a millennial in spirit because I seriously didn't want to watch star wars because I didn't know if I'd be able to sit still and focus on a movie for two hours without checking the interwebs.

I'm happy that the movie theaters next to the Grand Old Opry had a legit huge IMAX screen. When the 3D trailers started I started to get pissed off remembering that 3D isn't always better (was jittery and in and out of focus).

Star Wars was awesome, the 3D for the actual movie ended up being great (would've just preferred regular 70mm on IMAX screen though), and it was reserved seating so I didn't have to jostle for seats in the center towards to back.

3D is always worse. I probably should post this in the "things you don't get" thread

I very rarely see 3d (skipped it for star wars), but I did see the martian in 3d.

When I do, I check that website that grades 3d movies. Tells you whether it was actually filmed in 3d or if it was faked in post. Tells you if the movie is one of those where they like to poke you in the eye with stuff. Etc.

Yeah, but they don't grade the previews, and oh god are there some nasty 3d movies being made. Stab you on the eye extra hard just so you can believe you are getting your money's worth.

I just watched The Martian last night for the first time.

What the hell what a lame movie. No love interest, no one dies, wtf? It had all the right pieces to be a good movie but just kinda stunk in the end.

I also watched The Martian last night and had the same reaction. Even when things went wrong there was no real tension because the story has no balls.

I was more disappointed being Ridley Scott. How did he let that go?

Guess it's a divisive movie, because that's the reason I actually liked it. The tension was more about the fact that there was no right answer. Everybody was trying to do what they thought was the best thing given the situation, even though no solution was 100% perfect. The tension was Sean Bean vs. Jeff Daniels. Nice to see a movie that ...

... doesn't constantly try to fool you and rely on plot twists to create tension. Nice to see a non-indie film where there's not a very obvious bad guy we're supposed to root against.

I can't watch Jeff Daniels after the Newsroom. He turns my stomach.

I liked it because it was lighthearted and they didn't try to have some aliens or angry computers kill everyone.

I liked it because it was a movie where a group of obvious nerds step up and save the day using their nerd powers.

HAL was not angry, he had compromised programming that Dr. Floyd didn't inform Bowman and Poole about.

Chinese nerds. It was a great moment in international nerd relations.
