I just got a warning that I will soon be accepted to a graduate program at Cambridge. It's part-time, and I am low enough on Cambridge's totem pole that I will be sent to Oxford to have my dissertation supervised in Year 2. The person they chose for that specializes in the area I'd proposed to work on, though, and seems very bright. And 8 scheduled week-long trips to England will be a pleasant break in the schedule.
Great local hike yesterday as one part of a fun weekend with the cool gal I'm currently dating. It's one I'd been meaning to do for a while but hadn't gotten around to (the hike, that is.)
The trail leads to a bunch of half-completed buildings constructed in the hills by a bunch of WWII Nazi sympathizers who figured they'd need a place to live while they waited for the Reich to conquer America. They're not using it anymore.
It's all heavily graffiti'd at this point (we saw more Stars of David than swastikas). Some of the graffiti is pretty cool, although it would be a lot cooler if the douches who created it had bothered to pack their empty spray cans out with them.
