Built a bridge over a stream in Sequoia last spring. Cleared trails in Alaska the year before that. Thinking about Grand Canyon or Montana this year. The cost of the program is cheap and they take care of food. Some trips provide cabins and others you have to set up camp on your own. It's a really worthwhile and fun endeavour and you meet some great people. They have dozens of trips a year all over the country. Check it out if you're interested.

I'm thinking about doing the Alaska trip harvey did. There is another one in Yakutat that sounds cool, but the airfare to get there is insane (requiring 2-3 layovers and a ton of $$$). Flying into Anchorage is much easier.

Bunch of other places still have slots, but I've always wanted to go to Alaska.

I love Alaska. I've been there multiple times, as a tourist and as a crabber, and almost moved there after college (I'd have beaten Chris McAndless by a few months). I was thinking about going on this trip as well, but my wife decided that she wants to come along on my voluntourism, and she doesn't do tents. Whale counting in the Caribbean sounds like a decent alternative.

No, I'm not kidding.

It will be just like the time I stuck a folded up piece of toilet paper in the door of the stall after pbooth wondered why someone would ever do that! "Don't knock it 'til you've tried it" and all of that.

edit: for reference, having tried it, I can say that folded TP in the stall door provides little to no satisfaction.

I was distracted by the lavender tube top reference.

I discovered a new technique that contributes to my happiness (inspired by cartoons of youthtime): whenever I feel irritated by something, I just yell "Aaaaaalvinnn!" That makes my body believe that Alvin was responsible for the irritation and that he'll stop irritating me once I call him out.

The area outside Lexington to the west where the horse farms is unbelievable. I sued to drive it in the spring and early summer to see the foals getting their bearings. Ahhhh Lex to Richmond... must have been on 25-- as there is nothing to see on 75. (Went to school in Richmond)

Yeah, I was a little dubious that it would be good, but it really was delicious. I'm hoping next visit will be when the horses are racing, but this time I at least got to see them work out.

It was really pretty. We took the road to Richmond that uses the ferry to cross the river. Definitely not 75 (we took that back). I can't remember the name of the road, but we went from a hike at Raven Run to the ferry and then drove through a bunch of hollers to Richmond, if that helps.

Also, Richmond was the location of the bar where the aforementioned $55 shot of bourbon was purchased.

Did you go to EKU?

Definitely go back for the horses. Out of the tracks I have been too, I think that one is my favorite... something about the spring air at the track was just so intoxicating.

I am a Colonel and wondering if they can pull an upset over Kansas.

My guess is that you were at Madison Gardens or the Copper Still. I don't think the Copper Still Building was even built when I was in school. I was a Family Dog sort of guy... hahaha.

I "dated" a sammich artist when I was in school. She chased me and cornered me in Razzles (a country bar I hung out in).

Now I am wandering about my home singing the Five Dollar Footlong song, but in Axl Rose voice.
