I hadn't posted this in the "pissing you off" thread, because I felt it would be trivial to do so, but very close friends and neighbors of ours have a 4-year-old daughter who is the closest thing to a best friend and classmate that our daughter has, and she was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilms Tumor, a form of kidney cancer most prevalent in children. It has been a devastating week for them and a deeply troubling one for us as well. She is a bright, precocious, sweet sweet kid and last Friday there wasn't a hint of anything wrong besides a fever and a rash. By Monday, she had had a 1-lb. tumor and a kidney removed, poor thing.
Anyways, what's making me happy today is the fresh news that the tests have come back in and her cancer is a treatable form of the disease, with a relatively positive outlook for her full recovery. Had the tests come back the other way, she was really in for a grave fight. She is still in for a brutal 8 month regime of chemotherapy, but the outlook is a lot less bleak than it was just a few hours ago.
