Also, my fantasy would be in a private residence in the mountains where I could smoke my face off if I so choose.

Come here to Pennsylvania. I don't have a fireplace but you can soike your ass off here if you want.

Breaking Bad marathon is on AMC. smile.gif

(Okay, I own the show on DVD and am about to get the big Blu-Ray pack, but I still like to see it on.)

Over a $30k raise for a Christmas present. I'd be (and I am) jumping up and down, but with recent additional responsibilities this just gets me back to the level of purchasing power I had a year ago. Plus with taking time off for the Bar and those additional responsibilities, I've been in the red monthly for the last seven months. Weird the way life works. But yeah, nice to get what I've been working toward for the last five years.

That's great, hunts. Did you have to change jobs or was this an overdue promotion kind of thing?

I'm relaxing on the sofa after five busy days of traveling. My brother got married in DC on Friday, and I was his best man. The wedding, a small affair, went off without a hitch, and it was really perfect. I hadn't had the chance to meet his new bride before this visit, but I'm happy to say she seems like an awesome woman. They're also clearly very happy together. I'm sure part of it was just the emotion surrounding the wedding, but there was also a real sense of contentment between the two of them that I think transcended the short-term wedding excitement. I'm really happy for the two of them, and I think their future together is bright.

We mostly spent time with family, but we did manage to take in some sights. We even worked in brunch with an SFer, which was most enjoyable both for the food and the company.

Plus, MrsG and I had the foresight to take tomorrow off, so we have time to recuperate a bit before we get back to the grind.

I ate a medium sized banana cream pie from little pie company over the weekend after watching the momofuku pastry chef make one using super ripe frozen then thawed black bananas. Perfect combo with some bourbon. Now I'm craving some apple pie with cheddar (the eating kind)

I don't want to be a dick, but is contentment something you should seek in a partner. This is a real question.

Thanks, Stitch. Maybe next time I'll have some meet-up time that's not on a Saturday morning/afternoon.

Maybe I'm misusing the word, or you're reading it differently than I intended, but I'd say yes. I was trying to express the fact that I perceived a level of happiness between them that goes much deeper than the "I love him/her sooooo much" inlove.gif sort of happiness that it's easy to experience when you're wrapped up in the moment. They seemed to care for one another in a way that I think points to the type of love that will support a marriage, and there was something in the way my brother looked and acted that said to me that he's found the right person.

But do your brother and his wife both use Zicam?

As someone who lived, it seems, at least a good part of the of the life you are living, your partner, those who are not of the meaningful one night relationship variety that is, will not always bring the high so frequently experienced being single or in the beginning of the relationship. After the hot monkey sex passes and the duties of day to day life come to fruition, you cannot simply hit the reset button and head to the bar to find another high for the night and not throw everything else away.
