my elderly father, who is hard of hearing, has always had a difficult time with automated telephone prompts. especially with the kind that have you input numbers on the phone ("For english press 1").
it was always a horror show/amusing to listen to him yell at the phone when calling customer service. it usually ended in him swearing loudly and just hanging up (then looking around for someone help him make the call).
it makes me happy to see him call now because most of the time its the automated computer that actually asks and listens for responses ("In a short phrase, state your problem" to where he'll respond with something like "I WANT TO RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION TO GUNS AND AMMO"
he'll still yell his ass off at the phone (in filipino accented english), but now he can get through a call with the computer by answering with his angry assed yells, or eventually get connected with an actual human from customer service (to where he instantly turns into the nicest man ever and stops yelling and can suddenly hear again).
bad hearing runs on my fathers side of the family and has afflicted my siblings and I, holidays are usually happy yell-fests.
