Hadn't posted here in a while. Not unhappy but nothing has been making me "happy"
Today was a happy day. I hardly ever do anything religious but a neighbor in my building asked me to take her to Yom Kippur services at a major Synagogue here in Houston and I did. She's in her late 80s and in addition she was the speaker to the congregation at the end of the services.
She is a Holocaust survivor and with her permission, I post these pics.
After her talk to about 2,000 people at the end of the service
Walking down from the stage
In the lobby of our building,
Her and Slick Willie C at the Holocaust Museum a few months ago.
It was a good day. Her story ( which I knew of course ) is incredible. It was basically, about gratitude, "Never Again", and only in America!
In brief: she vividly remembers the Nazi SS coming to her parents home and beating up her Brother and Father and then taking them away. She never saw them again.
She was in a labor camp for 5 years and after liberation she was an Israeli pioneer who was there at the founding of that country.
She was married in Israel and emigrated to the US with her husband and kids to try for a better life in America. None of them spoke a word of English. The husband went to College in the US and became an engineer. Their children were very successful and she now has 7 grandchildren. Every one of them graduated college with advanced degrees from places like U of Chicago and Johns Hopkins. She was not boastful in the least but grateful. God Bless America and only in America.
A good day and it made me happy.Edited by rnoldh - 9/14/13 at 8:21pm
