No, from being able to recognize social and political agendas through sloppy dramatizations.

With you on that. And now I know what your neighborhood is like.
Just finished the second season of Treme on a long flight. Definitely a letdown in terms of writing, etc. after The Wire, although the acting is generally strong (a number of actors from The Wire followed Simon to Treme), and the music and general sense of place are really great.

Lol. Those hoods are not too far from me, and I have worked in those hoods, but never lived there.

Never heard of Treme. Will look into it.

treme is a great show to have on in the background while you're doing stuff like paperwork/notes/ect . you don't even need to watch it closely and can just listen to the music.

It's amazing how much money I've been amassing since I've quit smoking and cut down on drinking (to almost not drinking at all)--I also feel quite a bit better. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

but they have also combined the very american thing of starting a gift registry into the normal parties. its an easy way of buying gifts in general.
thats why the mexi - asians and above people mentioned do the "lets party everyone!" so everyone can get together. its usually a kind of epic party that starts at lunch and involves BBQ and organized sports like basketball/whiffleball/touch football - then it will spill into the night with poker/majong/games its fun but can be a little too much (especially if too much drinking and pot gets involved).

out here the mexi-azns and the chinese-mexi-azns with money like to throw these elaborate, over-the-top parties held in their mansions, hotel ballrooms or at the country club and the cost would easily buy you a nice compact german sedan.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
a few examples:

these are all 1st birthday parties afaik

I'm back at work after vacation. Being at work isn't making me happy, but vacation last week sure did.

It was pretty much exactly what I was hoping for for this trip. Most of our vacations over the last few years have involved other people, either family or close friends. In fact, this was the first time we've ever taken a trip that was just the missus, little one, and me. We really needed to get away, and to do so without feeling like we had to make other people happy. The goal was a laid-back, simple trip, and it was a success. We intentionally chose a slower-paced place that wouldn't be packed or overrun by tourists, and it was awesome. We spent the week doing whatever we felt like doing without answering to anyone else. Plus, we gorged ourselves on seafood, spent some time on the beach, and even hung out with an SFer for an afternoon (though that particular SFer is more of a real-life than SF friend at this point).

Sounds great, G. Glad all the Gs had a nice week.
