The wife and I have been re-watching The Sopranos for a while now, and I'm consistently struck by just how great it was. I always cite it in my "best of" lists, but the intervening years since I'd last watched it had faded my memory a bit regarding just how spectacular it could be.

Paulie: I hear you.

Paulie: You're not gonna believe this. He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

Christopher: His house looked like shit.

^there's the subtle things too. Like when tony would visit the NYC crew in his scenes with johnny sack, it was always in a nice place (clean and haute) but when the nyc crew was in NJ it was at the pork store or strip club.

here's an addicting overly analyzed piece on the theory of the ending of the sopranos: http://masterofsopranos.wordpress.com/the-sopranos-definitive-explanation-of-the-end/

^its a thick read, but you can pretend like its a college textbook and just read the bolded stuff. warning its really addicting and will make you want to watch the final scene over and over.

moreover it actually makes me think the ending of the sopranos (with context) is genius.

^i was blown away at the acting even on the 3min youtube clips. the Wire arguably had better writing, but the sopranos has such good acting. its like watching nba highlight clips with michael jordan or something.

Indeed. And they cast great actors even in smaller roles, which upped the quality overall. There were very few times with that show where you could really see that they'd cast someone cheap just to fill a spot.

it had such an amazingly broad cast, and so many of them were so good, its really hard to pick a favorite.

re: the final episode ending, i loved it. i thought it was perfect.

if you like gandolfini, you should watch, in the loop, welcome to the rileys, cinema verite and of course, true romance.

The Last Castle was not a great movie, but Gandolfini was amazing in it. He out-acted Robert Redford in that film. Amazing performance.

Don't know yet, but they'd have to give me a lot for me to give up UCLA, who offered me about 60k. Still, really nice for the ego to get in to a T14. This has been a crazy cycle. At the beginning I felt really lucky to get in to Pepperdine. biggrin.gif

The problem with Georgetown is that it's in the same city as the government.
