I don't believe I've mentioned this here, but I was asked a couple months ago to help an attorney write a legal guide. I've been learning so much in the process thus far, and this will look really good on my resume. satisfied.gif

However, I would like to get college credit for doing this, but the internship director within my program tells me that "law really has nothing to do with political science" and that "political science is about designing experiments". What a load of shit--I've done University approved internships before, and they were always meaningless. I'm helping an attorney write a book and I just hear "well that isn't what we are about here in Political Science".

So this is happening.

But therein lies the challenge of the translator's art, no? Once can produce a technically accurate translation yet still fail to capture a text's true emotional power.

To paraphrase acidboy: lolwut? What does the director think is the point of these "experiments" if not to inform public policy, which often is expressed through law? That internship director should pray on one ivory tower knee you don't leave the fricken program, and then [insert your own intern/kneepad joke here] . . .

my wife, the dogs, and I are doing a roadtrip to maine (acadia national park) this weekend. she had these weird errands for things we don't need: a specific tent, some uniqlo stuff (I actually did need some boxers), other camping stuff, ect. The thing that pissed me off is that she's insistent we need the camping stuff even though we have hotel rooms booked throughout the whole stay. So I have some extra time this afternoon and drive down to SoHo (fully expecting to pay full price for parking, brave the crowds, and walk around in this fucking humidity).

But the weirdest thing happened...there was no traffic, and I ended up seeing this cop friend I know and he let me park on Prince St and I got all the shopping done in less than an hour and was back home in less than an hour and a half for the whole trip. Plus it wasn't even that hot out.

Apparently the BBC aired the english subbed version of Forbrydelsen series 3(the original version of The Killing) this fall. I had figured there would be a long delay after the danish version aired before the BBC aired a subtitled version.

I don't know if this season is any good, but I'm very excited to be downloading it right now.

There are these TV commercials for luminosity.com (or something like that). This obvious special flower chippy relates how it's hard for her to train her brain. She is 100% believable when she says that.

We just got the Japanese subbed version of series 1 this fall. Doesn't do me any good, can't read Japanese. My wife liked the Danish version better than the American though.

My girlfriend signed up for it and was doing it for a while. She was commenting on how much she was improving. I casually said to her, "Well, I don't think it is improving your brain function really. I think you are just getting better at playing those video games." Ever since she stopped playing them.
