Yes, I do agree with this. There is something special about seeing a parent really go the extra mile for their child(ren).

Also, I'm not saying parenting, especially good parenting, isn't worth of our respect, but I think we should, as a society, maintain some expectation that parenting will be done as well as possible without accolades.

Yeah. Or that feeling you get when you fear something has gone wrong, even that twinge in your stomach when you lose sight of them in a store for three seconds.

It looks like I'm actually going to get to take a vacation this summer. I wasn't counting on it, since I'll still be relatively new at work and wasn't sure what the culture would be like here, but my boss was talking about summer vacations with us recently and told me that I'm welcome to take some time if I'd like. MrsG has been doing a little research, and it looks like she's found a nice little place near the coast. Nothing's booked yet, and I still need to talk to my boss to confirm it's alright, but things look promising.

Good news, where are you going? I'm headed to Pensacola next month.

I was in the same boat, but it all turned out OK: I am taking a week (plus an extra two days I believe) in July and also have every other Friday off until mid-September. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I'm on a nostalgia kick right now. Watching The Adventures of Pete and Pete on Youtube.

Hey Dude!

Probably buying Fleetwood Mac tickets tomorrow. I am so excited, even though Christine McVie will be absent.

Also will be seeing Garth Hudson & Jim Weider (Jim replaced Robbie Robertson as The Band's lead guitarist) in concert this Saturday. Will bring back memories of seeing them with Levon. frown.gif

NOICE. I already got our Sept trip to PR approved so I'm set for the year.

MrG, there's no stated policy regarding vacation time at your company? it should be part of your benefits package

Heh. That thought crossed my mind briefly, but I don't think that's the case. My boss is really big on the life-work balance thing (which is really fantastic, by the way), so it doesn't surprise me that he'd encourage taking vacation time. Plus, we're pretty much completely prohibited from taking any time off for about three months in the fall, and I'm guessing we're encouraged to get away while we can.

Indeed it is. We're going to be closer to Apalachicola. Right now, we're looking at a small beach community not too far from there.

Enjoy P-cola!

I'll remember this when you're groaning about all the extra work during session. Are you doing flex scheduling for the Fridays off? If so, how do you like it? We have that option here for the slower times of year, but I'm not sure if I want to do it.

There is. It's pretty simple, best I can tell. We start accruing time from day one, and the only restriction I've seen is that vacation has to be approved by our immediate supervisor. I just wasn't sure it was going to be kosher to take any time this summer, since I'll still be relatively new, so it was nice to have my boss tell me without being prompted, rather than having to find a way to ask.

I was both a Hey Dude fan and a Salute Your Shorts fan. I definitely had a preference for the latter, but I will give Hey Dude credit for providing better candy for my prepubescent little eyes.

By the way, do you remember Budnick's real-life metal band? I believe if was called "Bad 4 Good," or something equally ridiculous.
