Save them. Save us.

I got us an opentable reservation for brunch at 3 PM on Sunday.

See you there.

Also, had arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday and I am doing much better than I expected. I've been walking since hours after the surgery and the pain is minimal. I am hoping for a quick recovery so I can get back to exercise and playing soccer.
Congrats on the new gig and the good outcome with the surgery. cheers.gif

Developing three completely unrelated thesis topics, the research is proving to be a lot more fun/interesting than I thought.

Side project in linguistics for the incoming students next fall is going well, accidentally lead to a discovery regarding the divergence of norse and west germanic personal pronouns that might actually get published if I finish it.

Reading one of the most difficult books ever written in the icelandic language (think Ulysses) and getting somewhere with it, really proud of myself.

Basically life is currently incredibly difficult, but the rewarding kind of difficult, which I was really starting to miss.

I will test this hypothesis on Sunday morning in NYC.

I dunno...sounds like a lot less work than waiting in line for an hour at some overhyped brunch place.

I enjoy brunch foods--in fact I often have breakfast foods for dinner--but I can think of maybe two places I like going to brunch at. One of them is just really good (and doesn't even do saturday brunch, only sunday), and the other one never has a wait and will give you two huge cinnamon rolls and two biscuits along with whatever you actually order.

Mostly though, I despise leaving my house without breakfast. If I have to get on a train and wait for a table, just call that shit lunch, schedule it an hour later, and let me have a bowl of cereal first.

I finally got a smart phone today (I've had the same flip phone since 2009). I probably would have kept the piece of shit, but my employer is covering the data charge. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I don't know how I am going to carry it though...belt clip? shog[1].gif Damn thing will not fit into any of my non-work pants.

My cousin's husband, who has been a Navy pilot for many years, made it to the final stage of NASA astronaut training. I guess they told him he had it in the bag, but he spoke with some astronauts and realized that he would be away from home far more than he expected. So he made the decision to drop out and stick with his Navy duties.

He wanted to do it, so I feel kind of bad for the guy, but I'm just glad to know someone who is badass enough to almost become an astronaut. Few make it to that stage.

"Brunch menus are an open invitation to the cost-conscious chef, a dumping ground for the odd bits left over from Friday and Saturday nights. How about hollandaise sauce? Not for me. Bacteria love hollandaise. And nobody I know has ever made hollandaise to order. And how long has that Canadian bacon been festering in the walk-in? Remember, brunch is only served once a week - on the weekends. Cooks hate brunch. Brunch is punishment block for the B-Team cooks, or where the farm team of recent dishwashers learn their chops."

- Anthony Bourdain

Brunch is for women and jerks. Just have breakfast late. Just because you're hungover or lazy or whatever and won't eat pancakes at the standard time doesn't make it a different meal you try to invent. Fuck you.
