Actually, the Coke is sort of a replacement for smoking that started when I quit, at least to start the day. I've always had a taste for coke (or "soda" for the Yankees in the room), but I picked up having a Coke first thing in the morning when I stopped smoking. When I was a smoker, I'd wake up and the first thing I'd do is light a cigarette, to the point that I didn't even leave my bed when I smoked in the house (something I cut out long before quitting). While I was quitting, I needed something to replace that part of the habit, and I started grabbing a Coke to sip instead of a Marlboro to smoke. Now we always have Coke in the house. I don't kill a whole can or anything first thing - most mornings I open one, take a few sips, and put it back in the fridge for later - but there's no denying that the habit was created while I was quitting smoking.
