I was browsing ebay for vintage doctor bags a couple weeks ago and I came across this thing below. The vague item description and lone photo gave the opinion that the bag was only good for decoration due to flaws that weren't described. But I thought it looked like it had lots of potential if a proper restoration could be done on it, so I bought it for $40. It arrived today and it's all sorts of awesome. The leather is quite dirty and dry, but it's very supple and should be an easy restoration. It's quite bigger than most doctor's bags, so my inclination to use it as a weekender or tool bag should be satisfied. The biggest flaw is one small rip on a corner that I should be able to mend or patch. The hardware is perfectly functional, and the mechanism of the bag's opening is really pristine. I suspect an older lady put the thing on ebay just to get rid of it. It's probably been sitting in a dry basement for 40 years, as there were some cobwebs on the bottom. But all in all, it was a good find and I'm excited about it.
