Either Goode Company, Rudy's, or this place the wife likes quite a bit but I've never tried.

Ugh. I read Wild Sheep Chase, Dance Dance Dance, Hard-Boiled Wonderland, and The Elephant Vanishes...but stalled out on Norwegian Wood and haven't touched him since, except for his running memoir which I disliked.

I saw this on George Takei's feed:

And realized I knew where that was. My first moment of "Hey, I've been there!" since I got back.

Was she joking? I assume that threats, or even expressed wishes of violence aren't acceptable in your office environment.

Also, I am curious to know what you did that inspired her to say that.

Did you accuse her of being the guy in the bathroom with the toilet paper?

She was joking, but I did say something to piss her off. Maybe she wrote it in that thread?

No, I know who that was.

Don't think this warrants its own thread, but since it will probably make someone happy.. Instead of buying gifts for the parents, we've decided to make a donation or purchase gifts for a family in need. Anyone done this before and have any suggestions on some organization to go through? I've been speaking with a friend who works with the homeless and might go that route. Also looked into Angle Tree through Salvation Army. Any other suggestions or ideas?

No other suggestions, as charity is one of those things you have to pick based on personal conviction, but I can tell you that I've done the Angel Tree program multiple times, and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I can't imagine not being glad you chose it.

Also, as a former poor kid, I can tell you from experience that having a nice Christmas can be really meaningful.

Sure, they have different qualities but their faults are pretty much all the same -- specifically, they're overdone and their taste strays too far from beer for me.

Silly loaded question. While expiration dates may not always be accurate (and purposely so: for most foods they err on the side of food safety), I'll trust the manufacturer and my own scientific intuition that vacuum-packing and storing coffee properly preserves freshness for a considerably long period of time -- at least long enough that for suitably short periods of time any difference in degradation rate between factory-ground and whole bean will produce a negligible difference if not in chemical composition then at least in taste.

Did I just pass one of you sons of bitches in the Viewmont mall? That was a very nice camel hair coat. I was in the grey pinstripe suit and the Florsheim imperials with metal taps. I think it was between the Orange Julius and the Victoria's Secret.
