The New Orleans Hornets (NBA) are changing their name to the Pelicans. One of the names that was apparently under consideration as well was Krewe. I am happy that they will not in fact be the New Orleans Krewe. (Don't care about the team, really, but I do not want to hear "New Orleans Krewe.")

What does Krewe mean? Is that slang for Crew? If so whoever proposed that name should be crucified upside down.
