so I left the bay area approximately 23 hours ago, after chugging a couple of pints at bj's, got through security just before the gates were opened, the cattle class was less than 3/4 full, the exit row I sat in was empty save for me, and the pretty f.a. buckled in front of me and I got to a long conversation and she asked me if there's anything that I'd want and I said I forgot my sleeping pills and so she snuck me one from her stash.... (it occurred to me after she gave me the pill that she might've passed me something illegal, but I was desperate to get maximum sleep hours and I dozed off for maybe 6, 7 hours. this was perhaps the most pleasurable long haul economy class trip I've taken my entire adult life.

My wife and I tried to volunteer to help clean up in Fukushima after the tsunami but they already had too many people to handle, so we gave blood instead.

Well, I don't know the according-to-Hoyle definitions, but I've always imagined a secretary sits at a desk, answering phones, taking dictation, opening letters, making copies, mailing items, those kinds of things. An assistant is more active and drives to pick up my dry cleaning, goes to court to pick up documents, interviews with clients if I'm not available, maybe even prepares some simple motions for my signature, acts as designated driver during the 3 Martini Lunches, those kinds of things.

Man, even I'd enjoy a flight like that. I forgot how long those flights are.
