re: scents,

i have an old bottle of boss that my wife gave me, and 2 small vials of creed that were a gift. i may put some on one a month at most. it smells nice, and i enjoy it, but not enough to make a habit out of it, or wear it regularly. but i can well understand those who do.

as to 300 bottles, i dont exactly understand it, but i do understand how essentially its not different than any other item than many people here collect. some are just more common than others.

Genevieve: Yup, I guess that's why they all call me Wonders!
Me: Who calls you Wonders?
Genevieve: Yeah exactly, who calls me Wonders? Hehehe.

Can I have some of what you're having?

Of course. I am enjoying a cup of coffee now--Java Delight French Roast. I would mail some of mine to you, but it would be cold by the time it got there. (Also it would probably spill.)

Perfumery is an art form, and the scents that perfumers produce can be quite beautiful. Or if they are not beautiful in a straightforward sense of the term, they are nonetheless compelling innovations or variations on themes from the history of perfumery. I own lots of scents mainly because I love being able to smell these wonderful creations whenever I want. There are some that I hardly ever wear as my scent of the day, but that I put on in the morning or after work just because I enjoy and appreciate them for myself. There's hardly a day where I don't open my fragrance closet and just smell a whole bunch of scents.

Also, not all of those three hundred some fragrances are full bottles. A fair number of them are decants. Fragrance enthusiasts who are collectors like to have full bottles of everything because the bottle and the box are important parts of what they're collecting. For me it's the juice that's most important. I don't need 100 or 50 ml of a lot of the scents I own, so it would be silly to own whole bottles of them.

Okay, I have not seen that movie, so I have to ask if Wikipedia's description is really true. It sounds so awful that it can't possibly have really happened. The perfumer is about to be executed, but then he's declared innocent because his perfume is so beautiful. And then everyone starts having an orgy. Please tell me that doesn't happen in the movie.

never watched it. saw a preview a while back, but was too uhoh.gif ed to actually watch it. but i imagine that is about how it plays out.

So you attached the image because you think I'm often in the midst of orgies owing to how beautiful my perfumes are? Because that's actually pretty accurate.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is an amazing book, and a fucking awesome movie. It's not a traditional Hollywood piece of shit. Yes, everyone has an orgy over his perfume, but I promise you it works in the context of the film.

Please watch that film and don't judge it by shit on wikipedia. It is a fucking great film, one of my absolute favourites.

Speaking of films that are not my favourite, I was reminded by someone that during the closing of my first solo jury trial I quoted Tango & Cash. So just ignore everything I say.

It is very hard for me to imagine how that could work in the context of the film, but you are a man of insight and integrity and so I trust you.

no, i was jokingly insinuating that you may have an unhealthy perfume obsession similar to that of the character in the film.
