I caused fear to arise in the hearts of my students on this day. A couple days ago I e-mailed the whole class to tell them the exam would be a week from today. In class today the following dialogue ensued:

Student: Our exam is next week, right?
Me: No, it's today.
Student: But you said in your e-mail it was next Tuesday.
Me: This is a teaching moment. It's not a good strategy in life to take everything you read at face value. Got to exercise some critical judgment.
Student: [Silent. Look of terror on face.]
Me: No, your exam is really next week.
Student: Whew!!!!
Me: You shouldn't take everything you hear at face value either. Now everyone take out a piece of paper so we can start the exam.

hahahahahahahahahaha

would have really sold it if you had wrapped the whole thing up in some grand philosophical statement.

I just found a syrian place that does seekh kebab just the way I like it. I'm so happy I'm not even going to question why a syrian place has a food native to pakistan on the menu.

You're coming to visit me, right? Send your flight details and I'll meet you at the airport.

Making me happy: I negotiated with my company to get a special flex-time system...got approved today. Also, got confirmation of a major project for next year. Every year there is a question if the client will continue or not. If they don't, it will really hurt my income. Thankfully, I am safe for the next 18 months.

Did any of your students punch you in the face and then strangle you with your tie?

Making me happy is it's Mrs. Piob's b-day tomorrow, so this Saturday, we're having our first house full of people in the new house. Everyone is bringing a dish, I'm smoking a crap ton of ribs, am going to break out my cask aged manhattans and the weather is forecast to be perfect. Looking forward to having a bunch of folks in the new place and celebrating for Mrs. Piob.
