I'm happy that long flights (like HKG-JFK) aren't actually that hard to bear anymore.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)During a 9hr layover at HKIA you can actually pay $50 for a buffet meal, shower, lounge/laydown, and a 15min massage. If you're part of any airline's frequent flyer lounges (they have most of those amenities for free).
Cathay Pacific has pretty good food (desserts are often haagendaz ice cream), entertainment (personal touch screen HD modules with a ton of movies/shows/docs - I watched a whole season of Top Gear, The Avengers, To Rome With Love, and the Savages on the return flight), and seats. Mind you all of this is available Economy, I was personally sitting in Business (but have done this flight sitting in Economy and the only big difference is the seats when it comes to Cathay).
The way I see it Economy on Cathay is awesome as long as you've got an isle seat.
