back when we were both 11 my best friend's step dad was looking for his "son" at my house. the step dad was a violent loser (who beat up on my best friend and his mom - often in front of people - including me).

my friend and I were playing basketball at the park and the step dad didn't believe my father when informed so. the step dad let out his pitbull and threatened to let it lose to find his "son" in my house.

my dad kinda laughed and before you know it the step dad forced himself into the house and the pitbull was in the house and attacking our dog (a chocolate lab).

Unfortunately/or fortunately.... my dad was cleaning his handgun(s) beforehand and had a firearm ready - and ended up shooting the pitubull killing it on the spot and then keeping the gun pointed on the step dad until the police came (fortunately very quickly since it was summer and there was always a police car stationed at the beach we lived on).

the step dad eventually was arrested and spent about 5 years of hard time (he had previous scrapes with the law) and provided enough time and space to have my friends mother to get a divorce and move to hawaii.

Jesus that's tough... I'm sorry about that.

well it was scary as hell because my friend and I were walking home from the park and when we hit the beach we saw police officers running up our lawn - fat cops awkwardly hustling up a huge 5 acre yard. the step dad's pick up truck was parked in the driveway and I feared the worst....

my dad has made a full recovery (with only tiny residuals in his speech) from a stroke last xmas. he still has his gun collection and cleans them religiously.

That's pretty bad ass. My dad has never done anything like that but I respect him mostly because of how committed he is to our family. He grew up in a poor, abusive household and has worked so hard to give me and my siblings opportunities he never had.

Thats awesome, major kudos to your dad. You better hook him up for fathers day! Im sure you make him proud of the effort and hard work he put forth.

Great stories about your dads, Lawrence and Stazy! It's wonderful to read stuff like that.

I've had a brutal month in terms of expenditures, including helping loved ones out with medical bills (don't regret that even a little bit, of course), big car repairs, and an unusually active opera season (don't regret that either.) I thought my bank balance was in pretty rough shape, but I had forgotten about some big sources of income. Turns out I'm doing much, much better than I thought. I predict that some new fragrances might be appearing in my mailbox over the next week or two!

I fucking love my job. Other than basically being paid to hang out with some awesome dudes, one of my customers has gotten into the habit of loading me down with indian food on fridays, and one of my other customers made this happen:
