Well, I had two whiskey sours at lunch and three old fashioneds leading up to the tasting so I couldn't taste anything.

Rep was from Absolut and we did a blind taste of Titos, Belvedere, Absolut Elixir and I think Chopin or something. Each one was from a different starch. I had no clue which was which. But it was a free event so I can't complain. Plus I got a free Moscow Mule and a vodka martini in the end.

The rep kept saying your reaction is personalized to your palette so maybe you taste citrus and someone else will think it's figs. Basically, it's all in your head.

Pretty much, yeah. I was at a bar when that Dan Akryod Skull Vodka came out and it was a big deal or something because it was like $25 for a shot or something ridiculous. I tried it. It tasted like vodka.

If you haven't, you should try a shot of Zubrowka next time - sip and enjoy. If you like good espresso, you should be able to appreciate how great this stuff is.

The US version is not the same though (FDA for some reason doesn't like bison grass)

Not all vodka is meant to have a neutral taste - that's a myth. Zubrowka has been produced in Poland for 100 years and there's nothing neutral about its taste.

For you, I will try it.

There is a bar I went to recently that on their menu they had vodka that they infused with their own bison grass.

I had some guys over at my house a while back and opened up a bottle of vodka from poland, the stuff with a cork in it, very nice potato vodka. one of these guys is a proffetional distiller - he makes gin and rye for a living, and has won some prizes for it. everyone really enjoyed it.

to be honest, vodka isn't my drink of choice, and I wouldn't spend 30 bucks on a shot of some designer american vodka, but you can't diss the good stuff
