You're drinkin' the wrong vodka, pB.

Cheap vodka is rubbing alcohol, but there are a few out there that actually have a flavor.

to a large extent, vodka is about mouth feel and water purity. so, if you could tell the difference between new york and chicago water, you might be able to tell the difference between vodkas. I know really good, polish vodka, when it is served cold enough, tastes differnt, but has a much different texture, than any american vodka. in russia, resteraunts will serve 20 types of vodka, all straight, and people believe that they can tell the difference

There are potato vodkas that have have a beautiful sake-like quality to them.

Certainly they can. You believe them when they say they do, right?

On a tangent, our Japanese guests brought green tea with them while visiting us because our green tea (from Japan as well, mind you!) would be inferior to their tastes. Now I don't have the experience to tell the nuances apart in green teas but of course someone who's been drinking it every day for 50 years can. On the other hand we brought coffee beans with us to Japan "as a gift" - it's unfortunate that the coffee was all gone when we left, LAWLZ. Don't worry we brought other gifts.

It's funny you guys posted this - I was actually thinking of Polish potato vodka when I first replied to pB. That stuff is delicious.

In New York they have russian vodka bars. Filled with guys who look very intimidating and beautiful women. I agree with your post though.

Vodka is stupid.
