Good for you. Sounds great. I imagine buying wholesale jewelry is a pretty crazy world, probably still very old school.

MrsG and I seem to be over the hump on what turned out to be the worst cold we've had in quite some time. It was a miserable week, but I'm glad we're feeling better in time for the weekend.

My 2-and-change-year-old (she'll be 3 in April) seems to us to be a pretty bright cookie; she talks quite a bit and carries on pretty good conversation and seems to enjoy counting a lot. She's been getting up to 20 without much of a problem. So the other day, on a whim, I started asking her what 1 plus 1 was, and showed her how to put one finger up on each hand and then count them. Then we did 2+2 and 3+3. I wasn't sure if she was really getting it but I didn't care; I was just trying to introduce a new concept and see how she did with it. Well, today, she started with it unprompted, and was doing 2+2 and 3+3 but then she branched out and started doing 3+2 and 4+3 and was pretty much getting it right. I don't know if this is particularly groundbreaking or anything... but it was just really cool to see her starting to take a concept, take some interest in it, and expand on it without prompting. It was really cool.

That's awesome, Douglas! You've got a smart one. We've had a couple similar moments with our little one recently, so I completely understand how cool it is. In fact, I almost came to this thread to post a very similar parental brag.

This is more making me laugh vs. happy. Huge fat chic, all in black, waddles quickly in front of me in Sbx line (she came in other door and Jabba'ed over fast to the line). She's on her cell phone yabbling away...at 6:10am...who could she be gabbing with? I am thinking what an annoying bint she is when I notice she is pulling her collar down off her shoulders some. This really ugly, sparkling green star appears. It is raised up and looks like someone took put glue on her and sprinkled green glitter on the glue, like most of us did with greeting cards when we were kids. I was thinking that's one fat glitterbomb. Then I got all Harvey.

Snitch, congrats on the new job and getting back into the acquistion of diamonds. Now we're going to have to change your name again. Snatch.

Those whole post is awesome. Great Snatch reference.

Got to admit, the black outfits does make her look thinner. rolleyes.gif

I had to look up, "bint".

I'm happy you appreciated the contribution. "Bint" is just a great word.

I figure that all the black too off at least 90#. I don't know if you can see it in the pic but try and notice how the flesh of her cankles are overspilling her velcro (because she can't bend over well enough to tie laces) hightops.

and i responded,
"its all of it. im on my feet for 15 hours straight, i havent seen my kids since sunday, im cold, my feet hurt, my back hurts, i havent shit in a week and i have a rash."

you forgot to say, "oh, and I hate all of you assholes, too!" But that works. Glad you're taking some time off.

Well, The Mrs. still has her cold / flu / whatev and has nearly lost her voice. That doesn't make me happy, but I think I caught the same thing the other day, but aside from being tired for a day and a scratchy throat it's pretty well gone now.

thanks man. this actually is a new venture and will be done almost entirely online and over the phone. they have done this in the past with success as a trial, and decided they wanted to really push it and start a new arm of the company. they called me and asked me to run this new arm. its pretty cool, and innovative in many ways. i think one of my responsibilities will be to create a tumblr for the company.

they asked if i had any web experience. laugh.gif

Got an e-mail from one of the most respected scholars in my field, inviting me to circulate a paper at a small, exclusive conference. Possibility of an honorarium, which would be a first for me icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

i am in the midst of an email conversation with Tom Wolfe, which has me pretty jazzed. That is actually the wrong word, I am over the fucking moon.

I'm also writing a piece about my time at the restaurant and it's really good and I am proud of myself, so I'm feeling very insufferably pompous today.
