i'm happy that summer is almost over and the guys who live 4 houses down from me didn't set up their above ground pool in their back yard...

for the past two years those guys have actually turned their house into a summer playground setting up an above ground pool, blasting marriachi musak even when no one is even in the back yard and having parties every night. for the last two years they'd have at least 15people over in the back and be having a good time. (i should know... I was invited and hung out a lot of the time).

I actually don't mind the loud partying - especially if its family affairs (like birthdays and children's parties) hell I was invited and attended a lot of those very parties of that neighbor for the last two years.. the free food and drinks and great times so close by are AWESOME... but it was escalating to the point where they'd have live music and unsupervised teen pool parties and the worst of them all... hipster parties.

fortunately our master bedroom, tv room, and office was isolated from the noise... so I was actually cool with it. But the surrounding neighbors complained and it turned into a cold war where I was caught in the middle not really caring about the noise/parties, and my other neighbors trying to press charges and dragging my name into the complaints. again I was lucky because the offending party knew I didn't mind.

but you know what? this whole summer there was no parties and pool, and it was actually nice. no more worrying about street parking and drunken party mishaps and potential medical emergencies (that was another bit of a stressor - last year a hipster stupidly was grilling and had a hot coal ironically 3rd degree burn his forearm). It was a calm quiet summer.
