Not sure if anyone else is in Lost Vegas this week for Magic, Project, or Pool (or the women's lingerie show for that matter), but I thought I would make a few comments about the usual suspects and a few new ones in case anyone else is here.
First off, for anyone that used to come to Magic but no longer does, it's probably the right decision: even with 100k+ people, it's still totally dead. Project and Pool are much more interesting, although I would hesitate to say that you'd be writing a bunch of orders if you were here.
There were a few standouts that I saw at Project:
- Kill City: Met RyeGB. The new denim is pretty awesome. People will like it.
- B. Son: can't say that I am the biggest fan of using jersey and fleece material for everything including outerwear, but the line looked good. I'm sure it will continue to be popular here.
- Gilded Age: I am a fan. The shirts were especially nice.
- Nudie: not much to report in the way of jeans that hasn't been said before. They did have a selvage denim overnight bag on display that was totally sweet, but no details on whether it will actually be on sale.
- Rag and Bone had a booth, but was not set up when I went early in the day. Maybe someone else can comment if they made it later in the day today.
- Shirt By Shirt: vintage workwear-inspired line of shirts (seriously) with some cool details. Unfortunately, did not have much time to check it out.
- Takel: nice, trim cut khakis and a pair of summer weight chinos. Limited distro at this point, but could be very cool.
For what it's worth, Project appeared to be sponsored by Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier. Amjackery at its finest - they even had their own bottled water. Tasted douchey...
Two things at Pool really caught my eye:
- a small company called Turk and Taylor (www.turkandtaylor.com). They have a lot of tweed made out of recycled wool, with some really outstanding jean cut tweed pants that will be coming out for the fall in three colors. They were nice enough to place an order for a single pair of pants for me. Vests are available in the same fabric for those of you that think you can pull that off.
- Apolis Activism: very workwear inspired line with a social background. The pieces looked really great, especially the shirts and jackets.
Anyone else here? Bueller?
