This will be my first raw denim, so I was just wondering if I need to soak N&F or something before getting them hemmed so they don't get jacked up over time. Also, is there anything in particular I should look out for when looking for a tailor to hem them? And what do I need to have in mind when getting them hemmed?

Thanks!

Yes you will need to get them hemmed, certain stores will hem them for free, or some will hem with chain stitching for around 25 bucks. I would try out the weird guy fit if you are 5'5, tapered jeans look better on shorter people, and they have more room in the thigh, and have shorter inseams. I'm 5'7 and don't have to hem WG, but there is no way not to hem SG.

I have 25 inch thighs and 16 inch calfs (if I remember correctly) and that is why I wear the WG fit, tagged size 33. Is your waist 31 inches measured, or is that the tagged size of your current levis?
NF Skinny Guy Deep Indigo
* Size 30 (31" waist, 9.5" rise, 10.5" thigh, 7.7" knee, 37.5" inseam, 7" leg opening)
NF WG Deep Indigo
* Size 29 (31" waist, 10" rise, 11.25" thigh, 8" knee, 35.5"

My waist is 31 inches measured. I think Levi's is vanity sized by 1 though so my sized 31 Levi's that i get is like a 32 inch waist and I just wear a belt with it to keep it up. Okay, that's what I was thinking too but I keep reading that the skinny guys are like SUPER skinny. (not sure if they meant more so than levi's 511's though). Thanks for your help! :)

I only wear this belt with jeans, I could not see myself using it for anything else, especially since the indigo rubes off onto the belt in some places.
Other question, why do people wax their jeans?

http://www.narragansettleathers.com/.  Email them and the will literally make you any belt you want for a really good price.  I heard about them in Boston and have seen some of the belts in person. Good thickness, good buckle choices but the shipping wait can get tedious.  This a good option only if you live in the continental US though.  I always go with dark brown so that you can't see the indigo.

Don't all belts fade/get worn over time?
