Naked and famous denim - Page 833

Thank you Jay for the information on the denim and sizing! smile.gif

I'm still quite unsure about whether wearing the Okayamas straight or a cold soak is better for the denim.
Does it really depend on how the fit is supposed to be?
Sometimes you read that an initial soaks is better for the denim and fading while no touch of water as long as possible lead to high-contrast fades..

If you soak without agitating the denim, it will not matter. The water makes sure you will lose excess indigo, which you don't want anyway... It also reactivate the starch and strenghtens the weave.

Last but not least, on unsanforized fabrics, it will get rid of most of the shrinkage, which you will get inevitably later down the road when you decide to wash them. Better get it out of the way before you start wearing.

High contrast fades have nothing to do with water/washing. It's about the wear to wash ratio. Simply said. Lots of wear compared to the washes.

Can someone please help me?

I'm planning on getting some "left hand twills" skinny guys and I'm uncertain of which size to get. I generally wear a 32. I've done hours of searching, and I'm hearing different stories about the "left hand twills". Some are saying they stretch like crazy, others are saying they don't stretch at all.

I've decided to either go TTS (32) or downsize 1 (31).

What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

lht runs bigger iirc. if you're not on the big side, going 31 will probably be fine.
just measure your favourite fitting jeans and compare the measurements to the 31 and 32 lht.

and about the stretch thing, its more of what you do in it. if you just generally walk and not go mountain climbing and biking in it, the stretch will be minimal.

Shameless plug:

It's getting colder. The blanket lined jeans are perfect for the weather.

Weird size 33 (fits more like 32). Like new.

Beautiful deep indigo twill.

Brandon himself on the Okayamas:

"I would assume that the jeans will shrink one full size with wash.

Soaking or not pre-soaking is a personal choice and there is no right or wrong answer. Personally I would choose the jeans a bit larger and pre-soak them. But if you choose not to do that its ok as well."

Hey everyone,

About to purchase my very first N&F denim tomorrow, just got a couple of questions for you vets :D

1.  People always say do not hem your jeans until your first wash, but they also say you have to wait half a year until your first wash... So how does one wear a pair of jeans that's way too long for them for half a year? What were your experience?

2. Getting a pair of SlimGuy – Broken-Twill Selvedge sz 30, I have a 32 waist. Will that be too tight? Or will it stretch down the road? I have big thighs so most jeans are too tight on the legs and loose on the waist. Hope this one will be okay!

Thanks in advance for your input!

1. not hemming your jeans until your first wash or soak generally applies to unsanforized (shrink to fit) denim.  some n&f denim such as the okayama spirit are unsanforized but most are sanforized (preshrunk), including the broken-twills.  I would just get it hemmed, you wont lose much length on the inseam when you wash.

2. your waist measures 32, or most your jeans are size 32?  N&F has vanity sizing and usually the waist is a couple sizes larger than the tag size.  I usually like to buy from blueowl but they didn't have the denim you wanted on their site.  tate and yoko has a sizing chart though, http://tateandyoko.com/Naked-Famous-Slim-Guy-Broken-Twill-Selvedge.html . I don't know how that fabric will stretch but most pairs of n&f i've worn have stretched between 1.5-2 inches.  If your true size is a 32 I would probably order a 29.  most important thing before buying is look at the thigh measurements and make sure the thigh isn't too tight.  waist can be adjusted a little by stretching or using a belt, but if the thigh doesn't fit then your shit out of luck.

1. if the pair is unsanforised, its only wise to alter after the soak as the denim will shrink, just wear the jeans well and dont worry too much. lastly, enjoy the experience.

2. again, just measure your favourite pair of jeans and compare the measurements against the size 30 slimguy.

1. If you want to get them hemmed, wash them first: even if they are sanforized, they will lose some length. The "wear for six months before you wash them" rule is if you want to have the most visible fades. If that's what you want, you can flip up the cuff instead of having them hemmed. It's a fashion that some like, especially when the underside is very spectacular (thinking about the hand-dyed weft N&F just released), though you can also flip them to the inside of the jean if you don't like the look. For my part, since I want them hemmed and I don't like the flipped up cuff look, I treat them as any other pants: I wash them and I get them hemmed before I wear them.

Remember, they are your pants: wear them the way you prefer.

2. As mentioned previously, is that 32 waist in other jeans or your actual measurements? I have a 38'' waist (measured with a tape) and I wear 36 in Slim Guys. Check blueowl.us or tateandyoko.com for the actual measures.

Do the power stretch skinny guys still stretch out with wear like any other pair of raw denim, or does the 5% elastaine kinda prevent that?  I want to get the new midnight ones but I need to know if I should size down to accommodate for them stretching.

the elastine prevents any significant stretching.
