Just wondering should I be soaking these in hot water before getting them hemmed?

edit: The N&F Slim guy 31 fit me perfectly in the thighs but the waist is a bit lose. I can probably fit my whole hand in there. I don't think I would have fit in a size 30 my thighs already fit pretty tight in the 31s.

Yes, you always want to soak before hemming any denim.

Short of wool slacks, you want to soak any pant before performing alterations.

Why actually? And should I hot or cold soak the chinos?

Seriously? Because it settles the fabric and finalizes sizing before you cut length off your jeans. Consult the B/S for all the instances of bros not soaking their "jawnz" forever, then hemming them, only to finally (and inevitably) wash them later and end up with pants too short.

+1.

Very simple concept .. Expect just about any pant (that isn't already shrunk) to shrink a bit in the inseam after a hot soak/wash. If they are way to long and you can't wear them without altering them .. leave at least a couple inches and pray they don't shrink more then that.

The chino's won't shrink much. And for that matter, you aren't going to get any real fades out of them. If you need to hem them .. just give them a good hot soak first. N&F puts those "these are raw denim, don't ever wash" labels on all their products. Nice fact about chino's, and why they are my go-to pant .. you can wash them. Wear them a lot, wash occasionally, and the chino's soften up so nicely. So comfy .. the look of denim, with the comfort of sweat pants = perfect every day pant.

Personally I don't soak my pants for hemming. I find that by the time my jeans stretch out and break in and I wash them or soak them 6 months or so later. It just shrinks back to how it was like when I hemmed them brand new.

Got a Weird Guy vs Slim Guy question - I checked the sizing charts on Tate &Yoko, and WG is listed as medium rise, while SG is listed regular rise. But for the size I checked (32) they both have a front rise of 10.5". Are the sizing charts correct or is there actually a difference in rise for these? They also list a thigh measurement of 12" so I'm not sure if that's accurate either - do both WG and SG have a similar thigh measurement in the same size? I'm looking for something that will fit similar to my size 34 Epaulet Rivet Chinos. WG looks like it will have too much taper for my liking, so I'm guessing Slim Guy in 32 may be the way to go.

use the sizing chart on blue owl. I'd trust that over the tate and yoko

BTW what is everyones opinion on the naked and famous belts? They seem to be pretty heavy duty and a nice alternative to the tanner and corter belts.
