Make sure the thighs fit. That has to be the single most important factor, and I'm sure others will agree with me. If you can't get the denim past your thighs, then how are you going to stretch out the waist? Also, stretching out the thighs means tearing at the inseam stitching and there isn't as much give there as in the waist and seat area. I personally can't wear the skinny guy fit due to how small the thigh is. I can wear a sz29 weird guy no problem in most fabrics (depending on thickness) and I have to size up to a 31 in skinny guy for it to be even comfy in the thighs. And then a sz 31 doesn't even fit right, since sizing up too much just loses the characteristics of the cut.
