N&F Regular Guys are 1 inch bigger than the tag, so a 32 is already 33" in the waist.

Size 30 is actually 31" which puts it two inches shy of a 33" waist, and probably the smallest size I could button.  I've read that this is what to shoot for.

As for my usual pants, I like a true 33.

If you can't get the denim past your thighs, then how are you going to stretch out the waist? Also, stretching out the thighs means tearing at the inseam stitching and there isn't as much give there as in the waist and seat area. I personally can't wear the skinny guy fit due to how small the thigh is. I can wear a sz29 weird guy no problem in most fabrics (depending on thickness) and I have to size up to a 31 in skinny guy for it to be even comfy in the thighs. And then a sz 31 doesn't even fit right, since sizing up too much just loses the characteristics of the cut.

Hm.  Good point about the stress on the seams and crotch, but I don't want to compromise the waist.

How much does the waist stretch over time?  I'm having trouble finding a firm number.

If the waist only stretches an inch give-or-take then problem solved.

According to my research, it seems that buying one inch smaller than your waist is a smart move.

I was confused by many, many posts where people were instructed to size down twice.  They were starting from vanity sizes rather than the tag size for their actual waist.

Hopefully a 31 will work out for me.  Thank you once again.

I'm not sure if this helps, but my size 30 weird guys (indigo selvage) measure 35" at the waist (17.5-17.75" pulled tight and measured flat).  I normally wear 32 in trousers and my weird guys hang off my ass.  My actual waist is usually about 33.5"

If you get the regular guy, then you probably don't have to deal with the silly rise and you can probably just shoot for an ideal final waist dimension.

I'm not sure why your size 30's have stretched out that much. Possibly irregular

i got mine last week, still haven't worn them (still looking for a belt to keep in there for 6 months).  did yours stretch in the thigh at all?  i have about .5" to work with in the waist, but they're skintight against my quads.

Thighs just aren't subject to the same pressures to stretch as the waist. Even if you're all abs, no fat, the flex when bending could exceed any thigh pressure. Any belly applies pressure.

These are regulars, TTS in size 33.

The thighs got looser for me.  I imagine this is mostly because they sit a little lower with after the waist stretches out.  How much room do you have to spare in the thighs?

zero.  they're not on like spandex, but another 1/16th of an inch and i'd start feeling it.  there's absolutely no air pocket between the pants and my skin in the thigh.  same with calves, now that i think about it.

i finally got a belt, so i'll try to post a fit pic as i have a feeling i'm not the only one with this "fit".
