Microbrews are often overrated, but the point is to expand your horizons... as for the comment

I think it is what it is, and it's an okay beer... a decent American Heff... goes particularly well with Brunch. I've bought it plenty of times, but I think Yuengling is the better cheap bar drink. At Blue Moon's price point I can often get Guinness.

Guinness here can get up to $6+ a glass. Pretty absurd. I guess we are far away from Ireland, but as much as I do like Guinness, it's not $6 good, at least not in Seattle.

My thing about buying more expensive beer is that if i'm going to be spending money on decent beer, i'd rather get something good. Don't think for a second i'm above splitting a suitcase of Natural Light with a friend or two though. If i'm at a bar, i'm usually drinking cheap shit for the most part and will drink nicer beer in the comfort of my own home or with friends at a house. $6 for Guinness is pretty ridiculous (coming from a florida resident) which is why i'd rather just drink the cheapest bar option like pbr, bud light or something. My favorite local bar has some decent beer options but i usually opt for bud light as on thursday it's only $1 for draft and they have blue moon for $3 if i want something slightly fuller. Flying Dog Wheat Ale is a mid range bar favorite of mine as well. If i'm at a pretentious beer bar, i'll usually browse the menu and try and order something interesting but more expensive just to try something new. I also don't understand people who only insist on drinking expensive microbrews when out at bars or at a friend's place.

I tried Blue Moon a while back and hated it, and I'm generally not one to hate ANY beer. Since it's fairly popular, I figured that my taste buds were just off that day.

Anyway, my wife just announced a few minutes ago that Blue Moon is her new favorite beer (she's not a beer drinker), and so I thought I would give it another try. Nope, still tastes crappy to me! Wife thinks I'm crazy, but I swear that this beer has a distinct note of vegetable-soup stock. Maybe with a hint of celery?

Just try buying a pint in Dublin... It's a good bit more than $6!!

I've noticed celery in a couple of other Belgian-style beers including La Fin du Monde.

I decided to buy a 6 pack of their Rising Moon spring brew. It is just ok. It is supposed to have a hint of lime in it. I can't taste it at all. It would be good on a warm day while grilling, but it wouldn't me my top choice.

It's funny about Guiness, I had it here and hated it, and we get it for about $6 a glass here, but then I had it in South Africa at about $2 a pop and it was great! LOL

Guinness comes in many different versions (I think I read 30 once) for the domestic and foreign markets. In the US we get 3 or 4 of them I think.

Blue Moon is a good choice on a really hot day. I'll drink a few in the summertime. In the winter its back to my ale. I don't know why I do this, but it works for me.

My friend from ireland says the american guiness is basically the swill that people over there won't drink. He'd never go near any of the guiness in america. I trust him as every time we go to a expensive beer bar, he knows about 85% of the menu, the beer's history and flavors and stuff like it. It's nuts. I kind of agree though, there are a million other beers i'd rather drink than guiness if i'm not just drinking the cheapest thing available.

For an American Belgian-style beer, try the "Abbey" by New Belgium Brewing. Comparable in price to blue moon and MUCH better. They are the company that makes Fat Tire. Just about any of their beers are good, but Fat Tire itself is the most common and IMHO the worst of their selections. Oh, 1554 is another good one, a black ale.
