What to use in my hair? - Page 2

Another thing to try. A different "wash out" conditioner. Work it deep into your scalp. It's then a mosturizer for your scalp more so than a hair conditioner. And yes, there's no reason to wash your hair every day. If the shampoo is causing a problem, going to every other day (and an occasional 3rd) might improve dry scalp. Head/shoulders will not solve the problem (it'll get you "addicted" to it), and it smells awful.

I know this has been mentioned on previous threads, but I'll mention it again. Take fish oil capsules (by mouth, not topically) for flaking skin; the omega-3 fatty acids are great for your hair and skin. That includes flaking of eyebrows, which is a common complaint for men. You can buy a bottle of 400 softgels (Kirkland Signature Fish Oil Concentrate) from Costco for ~$8.00. Start with one capsule twice daily. I take 3 capsules twice daily myself, but I am also trying to improve my cholesterol and triglycerides. The other supplement that helps is biotin. You also may want to consider changing to Nyzoral (ketoconazole) shampoo. It is helpful for flaking, dandruff or whatever else you want to call it. It is also very helpful in slowing down the development of male pattern baldness. It is more helpful at preventing hair loss than reversing it, so starting it earlier in life is a good thing. In the USA it is available in 1% as an OTC product; the 2% formulation requires a prescription. You can buy the 2% online from Canada without a prescription at:

Use it 2-3 times a week and any other high quality shampoo the other days you shampoo.

Hey!

Aveda makes a Shampoo/Conditioner that's focused on the scalp. I'd try that if I were you.

Product wise, I'd use Jonathan Product Dirt. Great moveable hold, a matte non-greasy look. I've been using it for almost a year now, and it's the best. Just use a little bit.

I have really thick hair too that's kinda wavy, so I understand how you feel completely.

About using a flat iron, go ahead, but it takes time and if your hair isn't long enough, the hair will stick out away from your face and will look awkward until you put product in it.

I've done quite well by simply washing my hair with apple cider vinegar. Flakes are way down, it acts as a nice conditioner, and after a short while once your scalp adjusts to it it'll produce much less oil. Vinegar wash + comb + brush has my hair keeping a good shape for the whole day, has a nice shine and feels soft to the touch.
