Finally made it down to TipTop in Greenpoint today. Glad I did. Very easy to look unlike Beckensteins, which is a bit more mazy and dark. Picked up a Woodhouse Donegal 6 ply for fall Tweed BlazerSuit. Some pics from the experience:

This is just one of the two giant warehouse like stock rooms This was suiting and Gab trousers, the other was sportcoats, coashmere and shirtings:

Plus as an added bonus, passed the corner where my dad grew up on the way home:

Neighborhood was basically run by my granddad from the 50s through the early 70s, but it was a very different place back then. Although, i think he'd do alright if he were running it now...lol

^ Good stuff, Rob! Have to make it over there myself. I may be stopping by Isles soon. Curious how that looks.

Rob, how much was the Donegal per yard? I was impressed the place wasn't dingy!

Next time, lets take a trip there together.

Beckensteins is a very crowded place with lots of fabric. Not as neat as TipTop and I think you have to really look a bit more for some great stuff. They do have a HUGE selection of VERY LOUD plaids though (Tartans) in the back corner, and tons of shirtings downstairs. I think Isles is just a distributer, and don't know if they stock fabrics. Someone who knows could probably tell more though. They're out on the island.

I was surprised TT was so new looking and neat.

NYR, do you know where Beckensteins is? I have never quite figured it out.

w39th I think. Its a small store front a block off 8th Ave I think. Not to far from FIT.

I think Beckensteins is the shop I heard about recently from someone else - they mentioned it's where all the FIT students go
