But, that's a houndstooth!

That will make a nice overcoat. Maybe in a trench style.

For the pants line, an indigo "denim" Charles Clayton wool/silk. I love it, it's a great weight and can't wait to see "denim" office pants:

I have a jacket made in that fabric. It is really nice.

Going to get it exactly like the one I have now, not sure what you would call it (3roll2, flapped patch pockets, welted breast, belted back)

Cashmere herringbone is really not right for pants. Other ideas seem good.

Have you thought about a double breasted overcoat? Since switching to DB last winter, I can't imagine going back to SB....

it's a wool cashmere blend, I think it's 80/20. Although I have sold a bunch of 100% cashmere pants. Very warm, very light, I like them but obviously not workhorse pants like a 14oz worsted flannel or something

No, I like to be able to access my suit/pant pockets without unbuttoning the coat

The Zegna houndstooth is cool, so is the Clayton.

looks like a lot of shoulder extension and a pretty big chest - is that the case?

I'd say so...I asked for a more 'comfortable' fit. Mind you, it doesn't 'feel' big. The shoulder measurements actually match what I normally wear in RTW as well.
