Not that you asked... but I definitely like. Bolder checks are my preference ... particularly during fall and winter. After a while, the ordinary just doesn't do it anymore ... it's simply another facet of mass production.

I agree with your preference for bolder patterns--certainly for odd jackets. But I am less concerned about the boldness, and more concerned about the particular color scheme. I have a little trouble imagining it with blue shirts (a must), and I happen to hate purple.

A good number of posters aren't mafoofan. And in this case ... I'd say a good number of posters are ... quite frankly ... gutless. The coat is a steal ... as long as it fits.​

But Doc, given that you are colorblind (the reason I've switched to gray) and find those colors perplexing, I exclude you from those covered by that comment.​

I think your point about most posters not being Mafoo is a good one, but perhaps not solely in the way you intended. Does a guy who buys five pairs of the same shoes, who wants everything to be interchangeable, really want such a distinctive coat that can be worn only with a limited palate? Maybe he does (and only he can decide), but it seems at odds with his previously expressed desires.

I have a sportcoat in a deep red with a hint of purple -- call it wine/eggplant/aubergine -- and I enjoy it for occasional wear. But the limited utility means I'm not going to yank it out of the closet in the morning and throw it on with anything. It takes deliberation, and, when worn, it calls attention to itself, as I suspect this cloth will. Both those characteristics I thought Mafoo was trying to avoid.

I'm all for Mafoo branching out, but from what I've seen of his existing sportcoats, I suspect there are other avenues that would produce garments he would find more wearable and satisfying. Or maybe I'm reading him wrong.

Being here on a regular basis obviously has its advantages ... insight. If all this is true ... his purchase was a poor choice.

Too bad ... that's a great color combination for someone who has what it takes to wear it.

Someone who has what it takes to wear it would hardly need to seek pre approval on the boards. I feel like I should do a one shot sale of all the fabrics I own and realize I will never get made up.

This is bullshit. Sharing pictures and discussing ideas isn't the same as seeking 'pre-approval'. You can pretend all you want that it is, but that would only make your participation here and the existence of your own forum all the more confounding.

This is not a purple tweed. It is a brown gunclub (with a purple overcheck). The two are very different things. The first goes with few things, the second goes with everything.Corduroys, flannels, moleskins, whipcords. Everything.
