Eye problems from computer usage - Page 2

There is such a thing. They take your regular prescription and modify it slightly (I forget how). I tried it a few years ago, and thought it was a bust. It made looking at the computer marginally easier, but distorted the hell out of everything else. Plus, I got tired of switching glasses all the time.

I had been complaining of my eyes getting tired, especially from reading, and my eye doctor gave me separate prescription for computer work. They certainly help, but they are merely adequate and not as good for everything else I need to do during the day. By way of illustration, my doctor said that I could drive in them, but recommended that I don't do so at night.

I don't use the special glasses much though I should, as by the time my eyes get very tired, switching doesn't do that much good. The problem is that I can't predict in advance whether I will need them and it is too much bother to switch back and forth.

I'm not sure there is a causal link between worse eyesight and extended computer use. I've had glasses for maybe 24 years now, and have been using computers intensively for about 20 of those years. My eyesight's been tested several times and has never changed in those 20 years.

Taking breaks, and looking at far away objects periodically definitely makes it more comfortable. My monitor (a 4x3 20-inch LCD) is about 4 feet away from me nowadays.

To make the best of an inevitable situation, get yourself down to Spectacles for Humans, and pick up some cool glasses.

Aging's a bitch.

It's a bit of a hassle, but from my experience I think you'll find adjusting to glasses/contacts pretty easy once the initial strangeness wears off.

First thing I did on the way home from the optometrist.

No shit. I am sure you are right about the adjustment.

Did you get Oliver Goldsmiths? I'd like a pair of those blonde tortoiseshells on Meyerowitz's site, but the price is too high.

No. I got some typically chunky German glasses. I feel they are nerd chic. I believe these are them. I chose brown, but am thinking of changing to black. Any opinions on color?
