Shorter, more closely cropped beards

I think closely cropped beards are great looking, but never know exactly how long to let mine grow before trimming. Below is a link to a photo of France's foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner. I think is a look...what do people think - is this a full beard cropped close or heavy stubble?

May be I am wrong but to me it looks like its a closely cropped beard

I'd guess that he just hadn't shaved for a few days. You could get a similar look with electric clippers run evenly over your whole face.

Looks like a skin beard to me. It's more well-kempt than a beard, but short enough so you can still see the skin underneath. I'm trying to grow one at the moment.

I generally run clippers with a #2 attachement over my facial hair once or twice a week to maintain a closely cropped "designer stubble" look

I'd call that pic very heavy stubble.

I grow hair very fast. I typically use my Remington hair trimmer every three days on its shortest trimmer-setting to trim down my beard to roughly a day-or-two's growth.

That's a vacation beard. He hasn't shaved since the plane left Paris.

Let me start a fire here: don't expect to be taken seriously professionally if you have any facial hair, be it two-day stubble, mustache, goatee or NFL lineman beard. All of these things say 'I'm thinking about my facial hair, not my job.' (And yes, I'm looking at you, Logan Mankins. Justin Tuck wasn't thinking about his flavor saver then he was knocking you on your ass last weekend.)

Looks like a vacation beard to me as well. I get like that after about 8-10 days without shaving. There is always a period between about 3 days and 7 days where it looks really bad. After that, it starts to look pretty good I think.
