I think more important than what you use is how you use it. I'm afraid to say I'm hair product retarded despite having tried ~15+ varities. All I want is the matte piecy slightly messy but not really look and I swear to god I must be retarded because it's never how I want it. I think my problem might be that I've never tried blow drying, it's a major mental hurdle to actually go out and buy a blow dryer though just to test things.

My favorites that've accomplished more-or-less what I want with damp hair are--




Any applying tips are welcome because I'm aformentioned fucking hair retarded.

My favorite: strong, not too shiny and nice neutral smell. Comparable Aveda products are overpowering in the scent dept. I've used the Am. Crew Fiber and one other AC product and went back to the MOP.

I used to use Aveda control paste for a while, but I've switched to Aquage transforming paste. It's perfect for styling straight hair and looks natural--my ex-gf didn't even know I used product until she saw me putting it in! (Maybe that's one of the reasons she's my ex...)

Bumble&bumble SumoWax

Bumble&bumble Super Rich Conditioner

Bumble&bumble Lotion (like a hair tonic I guess, moisturizes hair and scalp and leaves you feeling nice and tingly)

I'll second any recommendations for Gatsby Wax. I'm currently using Gatsby Spikey Edge (pink stuff) and Sebastian Extra Crude Clay, both highly recommended. American Crew Fiber wasn't bad, but I ended up going back to Gatsby. If you have access to stuff from Japanland I heard good things about Spice Sisters...

I started using body shop coconut grease maybe 15 or more years ago. still use it, but I have to buy it online because it is very hard to find in stores, and I found that the only reason I ever went to a mall was to look for it.

I like it, I tried a number of other products and none worked as well for me. I think that it is literally just a can of coconut fat, maybe with some stabilizers and preservatives to keep it from going rancid

I'm currently using American Crew Citrus Mint Active Shampoo...

When my hair is shorter, like right now, I use American Crew Pomade.

When it gets a little longer, I use American Crew Texture Cream.

Don't worry, it won't instantly give you super saiyan hair...

The Gatsby Moving Rubber line has a bunch of different "colors" each with varying strength/shine. I like mine because it gives a nice matte, flexible hold. Gatsby can be had pretty cheap compared to American Crew, Sebastian, etc.

I use Gatsby spiking edge and sebastian xtah crude clay. Both of them are fantastic.
