Is this area any good?

I'm staying at a hotel there next month.

Thanks a lot

What's the chances of getting a reservation at Alinea a month out?

Where should I go for lunch in Chicago?

There is North Lake Short Drive, or the North Shore area of Chicago.. but no North Shore Drive.

Call Alinea about a reservation, they will probably have something, albeit a strange time. Call right now, though... you can always cancel prior to 48 hours before without penalty.

Or you can go visit them directly. A personal visit always seems to get you the best reservation. Chicago is a very cash town in an old school way still. Money talks.

Lunch depends on what you want. People watching, fine food certain style of food, etc.

where do you live now?

if you don't live in a major metro, then go for ethnic in chicago: there are some very good mexican, indian, chinese, vietnamese options.the other option is steak, or the local favorites of gyros, hot dogs and pizza, all come in chicago styles.

If you have trouble with Alinea, you can try Tru...Amex and other credit card services can usually guarantee a table there. It's not the same type of food, but also very good and renowned. While Soph is right about cash, another thing is to use your concierge. If you will be staying in the Ritz, Drake, Four Seasons, Peninsula, Park Hyatt, etc., the concierge is probably a better place to throw that cash.
