The Red Wing 8012 Munson Ranger in burgundy settler leather, size 10. Extremely rare and I believe it was a Japan exclusive and is now discontinued. What do you guys think of them?

Yea, the first time I tried them on (ordered them online and my first pair of RW) I couldn't believe my heels were slipping that much. Since then, the leather has definitely broken in some and they feel a lot better, but not to the point I can wear them all day. Like you, I'm thinking the last may not be perfect for me, and I also regretted the purchase at first but not anymore. Also, I did buy some insoles which helped as well. If you want I'll look tomorrow and let you know what insoles I bought.

To be honest, I don't think they make them anymore. So it's going to be hard to find a pair

Japanese issue. They are still made. Imported the tan ones awhile ago. I sold those; I should've gotten the burgundy instead, they are outstanding. Munson last rules.

for the 3141 briar oil slick chukkas, would people recommend the rw boot oil, mink oil, or leather conditioner?

@ManofKent

I use RW boot oil on my 3141 chukkas and they're still going strong.

@ManofKent

I'm unsophisticated with treatments ans simply use Obernaufs LP on all my non-suede RW. You get some colour change but that doesn't bother me.

Long-time lurker. 9218s from the recent hautelook sale. Waxed laces replaced with cheap 63" RW store laces for better lock down while breaking in.

hey, guys, so below is the extent of the heel drag on my pair of 875s:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

is it okay for the drag to reach all of the way to the top brown layer of the sole (sorry, don't know the technical term; from what i see, there are three layers)? like, is that part of the sole replaced during the resoling process?

or would damage to that top layer be irreparable and best to be avoided?

I'd get them resoled right now. It'll be considerably easier and cheaper job if the welt (the brown part) is untouched and the mid sole (the thinner white part) hasn't worn through.
