Red Wing Boots - Your Opinion - Page 237

Red Wing japan posted these congress boots dropping this fall. Any idea if these are coming to the usa?

I think these have been worked on so people can get an idea what to expect after quite a bit of wear. I'm guessing that is between a year and a year and a half worth of wear on those.

My first pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers 8111 through some work, outdoor adventures, lakes, Pacific Ocean, snow, etc

Red Wings are a great starter boot I think. Once you get into them, you start to discover other options with more interesting detail (Viberg, Alden, RRL), but necessary for any real boot collection.

i honestly prefer my iron rangers over my bowerys and indys. i also owned an RRL washington boot and my iron rangers were definitely better quality.

you're right about the details though, the indys look much nicer with the contrast stitching in the toe but i wouldnt put them that far ahead of IRs in terms of quality

id love to see what those look like after a nice coat of oil or leather refresh

What kind of jeans are those??

Who doesn't have a second pair of their favorite Red Wings?

Does anyone have a pair of 9016 Beckman "Cigar"?  I find the color a bit too orangy in person.  Will mink oil darken it to a darker brown color?  Will this leather give crazy patina over time?  Thanks.

That's way lighter than the ones I used to have.  But I'm sure you could darken them a bit.

My Cigars are much darker than that, those look almost as light as my Chestnuts....

They should definitely darken with oiling and time.

I just received a pair of RW boots from STP.  I don't see any hole or special marking on the tongue.  What else do I need to look for to tell if they are "seconds" or not?  Thanks.

I have them. I thought that they do look a bit orangy. I recently got the Red Wing Boot Cream in brown so I hope they darken a bit. I¿m not bothered by the color but a bit darker would be great.

If the item description says it's a pair of seconds, then it's a pair of seconds.

Gentleman, I have a question for ya. I am in the process of hunting for my first pair of red wing boots. I've narrowed it down to 2 pairs of boots, but can't decide and it's starting to drive me crazy!

The two I'm looking at are the harvester 2943 in Amber harness and the new iron ranger 8119 in Oxblood mesa.

I'd like these boots to very versatile. While I love the idea of owning many fine leather goods I dont have a ton of room and don't want a million different pairs of shoes. These boots would be used for a variety activities, mostly casual and some motorcycle riding too.

Here are the pros and cons to me of each:

Oxblood iron ranger:
Pros:
-(initially I thought Oxblood was an odd color). The more research I do the more it seems to go with everything ( I wear a lot of charcoals, maroons, navy blues, and tan colors. All of which it seems to go with, correct me if wrong)
-minilug sole for grip (decent winter boot)
-I ride a Harley Davidson forty eight and the words "oxblood iron Rangers" just sounds so right

Cons:
-Oxblood may technically be versatile but with casual outfits I don't know if it really is, all of the research Ive done pertaining to Oxblood has been related to dressier types of shoes
-it's not as classic and timeless as Amber harness or a set of brown boots

Amber harness harvesters:
Pros:
-Amber harness is a proven classic "brown" boot with beautiful patina
-the extra height lends extra protection on a motorcycle
-fills the slot of classic brown boot
-mini lug sole (great winter boot between the sole and the height)

Cons:
-the 9" height may be really hot in spring (I live in MD, we have all seasons)
-Doesn't provide the same contrast against a dark grey motorcycle like the Oxblood would (this may or may not be a bad thing I guess)

Please let me know what y'all think. I need some input on the situation.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't think the 2943 is readily available in the US.

It's not per say. But companies such as "railcar fine goods" tend to get them in fairly regularly.

The brooks brother IR is starting to grow on me as well.
