Red Wing Boots - Your Opinion - Page 222

My 875s were bought years ago - one of the first boot purchases I made. Though I mostly wear my White's boots now, I still like the 875s best of all my Red Wings. I bought the 877s recently for the heck of it -wanted another 8" boot and love the 875s. The 877s are a classic I must say ...

My new 8181s...

In this last pic here you can see there is already some indigo patina from just wearing these a single time (about 6 hrs) with some new indigo jeans.  So looks like the jeans color will transfer to these FAST.  Not sure if I like or don't like that yet.  Will have to wait and see how it develops.

And here is my RW collection, 8181 classic round hawthorne muleskinner, 8115 iron ranger copper rough & tough, 8126 brogue ranger black chaparral...

I have mule skinner iron rangers that are 5 years old and unrecognizable now, that leather picks up all the nit and grit when you wear em. They were my first pair so it bothered me then, but it taught me to not baby my boots and to enjoy how they change from wear and tear. That and my Irish wolfhound was a puppy at the time and ate half of the right boot, I was devastated lol

Yep, I've seen lots of pics of the hawthorne muleskinner leather for 8113 IRs, 8181, etc with indigo stain, patina, and very broken in...  It's a very cool leather.  I don't mind the indigo so much, but originally when I bought the 8181 I was going to try to dub it with some kind of cream or paste, whatever kind would make the furriness less noticeable while maintaining the original very light color (most pastes, oils, creams, make leather ALOT darker permanently).  My conclusion was to use Mustang Paste.  I tried RW original paste on the tongue and it made the leather slightly darker.  After that I just put the RW silicone LP on them (I actually thought it was the regular non-silicone LP when I put it on, dammit)....  Still contemplating dubbing them with Mustang Paste....

Some kind of lug or half lug sole on that boot would look cool IMHO.

I know that the crepe wedge sole wears fast but I like it a lot - it's very comfortable and mud/snow wipes off easily. I tend to wear the 877 around the house on weekends and for short walks though. If I hiked with them or was using them for work, I'd probably prefer something like the Vibram 100 or 430.

Does anyone own or has anyone tried both 1907 and 875? How do their lasts compare? They only sell 875 here in Finland and my pinky toe feels a little cramped in 875 so I am wondering does 1907 have more space in the toe box?

I have the 877s, a buddy has the 1907. The 1907s look like they are slightly roomier, but he doesn't wear the same size as me so I cannot tell very accurately.. I also lace mine very tight, he likes his loose. But, I still think they are

Postmans

Both the Munsons and the Postmans look great. Keep the pictures coming people!

Another pic of my 8181s with more indigo patina on the back. I can't believe how fast the indigo is collecting on these.

I don't think they are a USDM model, I think they are a European model. I tried to have my local RW store order me a pair and they can only order the USDM models. And so they could not order these 8181s. If you go on the North American RW Heritage site the 8181 is not listed, but you can find them on some of the Euro sites like Amsterdam for example.

I am loving them so far. But I love all my RW boots so this is nothing new!
