I wiped them down with a damp/wet rag. It took a while to get the mud out of all the crevices and I spent a bit more time getting the caked & dried mud out of the welt. I normally use a stiffer horsehair brush on the welt but because of the mud, I fold over the microfiber cleaning cloth and use the wet corner of the cloth to sponge out the welt area. Lastly, followed it up with a good brushing. Obenauf's high wax content even leaves them with a bit of a sheen, especially in the sun. They almost look polished! Wish I took a before pic.

Those look awesome. Can you go more into detail about your cleaning? What is HDLP?

I'd use Sno-Seal if you want to waterproof them but I'm not aware of a way to waterproof without changing the color darker. It's just how it is. If you want them to retain their original color, leave them in the closet and never wear them.

Sorry if I came across like I want to baby them. I was just wondering if you have any insights since you are one of the posters with in-depth knowledge on boots from what I gathered.

Wondering what the consensus might be: Rawhide laces on the hawthorne iron rangers- good look? Would lean to brown or umber, I'd think.

8111's one month in.  One light waterproofing and two light oiling sessions.  1907 laces.

Just got a pair of 1907's and they are too tight with the insoles but are perfect with out. Can they be worn with out insoles like the 875 's . Any one take them out?

JCrew's "chocolate" Iron Rangers get down under 200 bucks with code FUNSALE (final sale, limited sizes, etc)

Does anyone know how Iron Ranger sizing compares to the 6" Chippewas?

The insoles should be removed. Staff at RW told me they are rubbish and underneath there is the same leather insole found in all Red Wing.

so what i gathered from reading the last 10 pages of this thread is that all u really need is obenauf LP as a care product right? in terms of cleaning all u need is a damp cloth and stiff brush?
