Red Wing Boots - Your Opinion - Page 108

I'm thinking about buying a used pair of 875's w/ brand new Vibram soles on ebay. They're already broken in and scuffed up, though, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Breaking in your new boots so they fit your own feet and scuffing them up yourself is one of the best things about them.

Anyone else buy used Red Wings? And would you do it again?

i bought my wabasha  from ebay too, they were used too.

I say its ok buying used red wings, the main thing is to look carefully on the leather upper's quality.cause we can have it resole afterwards if the sole is too worn out.if the upper is still ok,then i'd go for it.

side note:

i think the chapparal leather is so stiff that it needs more breaking in.the black harness leather on my 9075 is soft, and i just wear them straight out of the box,and they're so comfy.

Sorry for my late reply. Im very new to this community and need some time to get used to.
The reason why i was considering 8875 is as you said, 8131 is no longer available in US!!!!
Could you please give me the phone number of the Red Wing store where you got 8131??
If i can buy 8131, i dont need to spend way more money on 8875. And $199 for 8131 is a steal!

Here's my trusty 8130's, before they found their new home:

Sure, no problem!  Haha, I'm even newer than you, my response to your question was my first post and this is my second!  It's the Red Wing store in Hopkins, MN.  They carry the entire heritage line.  Oddly enough, even though Red Wing is a Minnesota company, a lot of the Red Wing stores in Minnesota don't seem to carry the heritage line up of shoes and boots.  Here's the number:  952-933-6777.  The guys there are great to deal with.  I picked up my 8130's a couple years ago from them and in the last 6 months I've bought my 8111's, 8126's, 8131's, and 3143's from them.  I like supporting the Minnesota companies.  Speaking of Minnesota companies, anyone wanna try some Spam ;)?!  Good luck!

Spam is gross but I love Benjo's laces from Minnesota. Have them in my two pairs of heritage red wings. I lived in Duluth for a couple of years. Beautiful area. Caught some nice fish up there.

Thanks a lot again lackluster!

The post that you replied was my first one as well! I found the website of the Red Wing store by googling the phone number you provided. They indeed sell 8131! Since they open at 12PM in CDT on Sunday, I am going to call them later to ask whether they accept orders by phone. Again, I really appreciate your help. I wish I can get 8131 and post some pics on this thread.

By the way, it is always great to support your local brands :D!

I have a pair of red wings boots 8139, but in all honestly I would rather have the green 8180 Oil tanned leather.

Has anybody ever treated the rough-out leather before? According to the RW EU site they suggest not using a conditioner. Has anybody here ever tried beeswax or mink oil on Abilene and the Mohave leathers?

I've got a pair of 3143's, which are a Mohave suede leather in the sand color.  I followed Red Wings advice and just sprayed them with the Red Wing leather protector.  Makes them a little easier to clean.  I think that oil or wax would probably make a bit of a mess of the rough leather.  If you can find a pair of the 8180's, you better grab them before someone else sees them.  They only made a handful of them, the few pairs that were made were only for Europe and Japan, and they're not available any more.  There's a used pair of 8180's on ebay right now for $1000!

Apparently the Munson Boot RW's are a roughout leather that has been oiled and waxed.

They are going to be extremely hot in the summer, your feet will sweat and the boots will begin to smell. I wear workboots just about year round, but when the temperature is above 85 and the humidity rises, a pair of thick leather boots is very uncomfortable. Sometimes, though, its worth it just to be able to wear your favorite boots for a day.

I always wear denim or chinos with my 875 red wings but i notice that they have some off the denim ink on them. So do you guys just let the ink stay on ur boots?
