Is there a Shoe Bank or official seconds dealer like with Allen Edmonds for Red Wings?
I want to make my first Red Wing purchase and get the 877s but if I could score them for cheaper then all the better.

My GT's after 2.5 years (3 full Canadian Winters) of regular wear. Before and After a good cleaning and Obenauf's LP.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Due to a move, I misplaced my shoe care stuff, so they were pretty hurting in the before. I usually don't let them get anywhere near that bad.

Hi peeps, how long do you think it takes to break in a pair of red wings?or maybe how many wears?

I've been wearing my Iron Ranger Brogue for quite few times.I dont wear them often, but on weekends i wear them all them time.so roughly around 50 wears now.but they still feel stiff. Could it also be cause of sizing?cause mine fits quite snug.i wear a US8.5D in them and my wabasha at US9D is a bit loose but still ok and comfy.Although i did bought the wabasha second hand, the previous owner have quite worn them.

any tips?should i just keep wearing them or should i buy some thing like that leather loosener or some shoe tree?

my 1907's i've been wearing for about 8 weeks every day for 8 hours and still aren't broken in at the heel and toe.  using leather oil about twice a month helps though as they've gotten better.

iron rangers i had for a couple weeks were broken in after about 2 days of wear.

so...the answer is it depends on the leather on the shoe and fit.  if they're too small, then they will never break in.  do you have enough wiggle room in the toe box?

yeah they're not too small, its just nicely fit. yeah i got some wiggle room.any experience with  chapparral leather?could that be that cause of stiffness? cause i do see them upper still firm and solid.

I´m planning to buy a pair of Red Wing Oxfords and some questions/thoughts about them.

The ones that I´m looking at is the Oxford Work 8052 http://www.redwingheritage.eu/boots/#&m=/detail/8052-heritage-eu/8052-red-wing-lifestyle-mens-oxford-boot-brick/ and the Beckman Oxford http://www.redwingheritage.eu/boots/#&f=Heritage Oxfords&m=/detail/9042-heritage-eu/9042-red-wing-lifestyle-mens-beckman-boot-antique-cigarr

Herw´s some pictures (8052 on top and 9042 below)

Now to my questions:

Apart from the soles, colours, they are quite look-a-like?

The 9042 is about +10% in price.

The last for 9042 is No:224 for the 8052 it´s No:8 both shoes in D last. What´s the difference?

I already have a pair of Iron Ranger 8111, so I suppose that the 8052 would fit my feet quite well.

Quality of the leather:

What´s the difference between Brick Settler and Antique Cigar Featherstone Leather apart from the colour?

.

And to the last magic question. Which ones should I buy?

Just picked up my first pair of 9161's and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how they should fit.

I happened to find a pair at a good price, but the caveat being they're 2 sizes down from my normal size.

Was sure they weren't going to fit, but when I tried them on, they feel only slightly snug (but not uncomfortable at all). Quite surprised they fit how they did.

I'm wondering, will these stretch out a bit as they break in?

If so, I guess I will keep them, but if not, will have to debate a bit longer on whether to return them or not.

Thanks!

You may need to reevaluate your "normal size."

Lol, regardless of that, do they stretch/give much overall as the break in?

somewhat, but not in length.  if you need them wider than the sole width, then you need to size up (in width at least, provided length is good).  if they're short, then it's a bad idea to have them stretch in length.

have you thought about amazon's shoe subscription?  if you google it, you can find a link on amazon to sign up for their shoe emails and they give you a one time 20% off code a shoe purchase.  (the shoes must be sold and stocked by amazon, not an affiliate)  with 877's, you shouldn't have a problem.

that'll save you about 50 bucks.  how i got my iron ranger's.

I have both of these so I may be able to answer your questions. The 9042 has a sleeker (lower profile) toebox. The 8052 are a little more rugged and bulbous while the 9042 is slightly dressier. The leather on the 9042 is a little more matte whereas the 9042 is a touch shinier. The leather will wear pretty similarly. I wear the same size in both. Personally, I prefer the 8052 because I like the neoprene cork sole. Buy them both! smile.gif
