I got the 214's while ago and the toe area is a lot more narrow than the 875. Well I'm narrow in the way the look because the fit is the same that the 875's. I believe they look like that because the moc toe is not double layered like the 875's and the rubber/cork sole is a lot more thinner than the crepe soles in the 875's. Personally they look more dressy than the regular moc toes but I just don't like them like that my feet look too small (I'm size 11 us) I'm getting the soles replaced with vibram crepe soles this weekend so I might send you a pic soon.

Anyone care to give me some sizing advice on the Iron Rangers (in Amber Harness)

I wear a 10.5 in LL Bean Katahdin Boot (thick socks)

10.5 in Rancourt Ranger Mocs

11 in Vans Authentics

10 in Chucks

11.5 in Nike Free Runs

11 in Sperry Topsiders

10.5 in Clarks DB

and 11 in most other sneakers. Also anyone know of some sweet deals coming up on the Iron Ranger? It seems like they can routinely be had under $200.

I think we are the same size. I got my Iron Ranger size 10 and they fit just right.

Is there any difference between the colors oro russet and oro russet portage? I am US based and trying to get a handle on getting a pair of classic six inch boots.

The 8131 (listed as oro russet portage) is not listed on the US site ( only the European) however there appear to be a few online retailers who seem to carry it.

The new European only 4558 is listed on the Red Wing European blog as also being oro russet portage however it seems much more orange in color (which I like).

I do not know how best to care for them. On Red Wing's site, it says to use Mink Oil. But I have heard that Mink Oil is a bit of an archaic method, and that it also significantly darkens the colour. I am considering using Obenauf's LP instead. Does anyone have experience with this?

 

They will inevitably get soaked (I ride a motorbike in Bangkok with them), is there anything extra I should do to protect them?

We're going to be bringing this style to the United States (Really had to tussle with the Japanese factories for this) and I thought I'd post this flyer here for my Red Wing lovers. If interested, I can figure out pricing and start to take orders; just shoot me a message if you have any questions. We have this boot in brown now, and a lot of our customers dig it because it gives a more slim/narrow profile. Even still, this boot is tougher than nails. I mean all RW boots are pretty darn rugged, but these will really NEED to be broken in and given a little TLC.

And also, for the remainder of the day we're running a CYBER MONDAY deal with 25% off everything on our site. Pretty nice deal if you're considering some Red Wings to beat up over the next few months (lifetimes).

Just did a little digging for you. You are correct, the 8131 is not listed on RW's US web site; and the photo displayed on the European website makes them look exactly like the 9106 boot. While similar, they are in fact two different models. The 9106 is the Copper Worksmith leather and is a slightly deeper red shade than the 8131. In contrast, the 8131 is in fact slightly more orange in color. The 8131 and the 4558 (which is an 8" boot similar in style to the 877) are both Oro-Russet Portage leathers.

If you're looking for a boot that is slightly more orange in color, go for the 8131 or the 4558, if you want the 8" work boot.

It's a 877 and selvedge kind of day  here in Utah.  One of the last motorcycle riding days of the year.  Love these boots.  Man are they comfortable.

If it helps i have emailed RW cust service and their reply was the 8131 is now considered a "international" model and no more sold in the US.

Hence the model is not listed in the website anymore.

Thanks for the replies re orange russet and orange russet portage.  It is sort of what I had gathered.

 

I was just able to cop a pair of 6" boots on the Park & Bond web site.  They are listed as "russet" however they definitely appear to have an orange cast as with the 8131 and 4558.  I will see what I get - I hope they are 8131's and Park&Bond are clearing out remaining pairs for Red Wing.

 

The 4558's on the European sites are quite nice.  Is there any way of obtaining them here in the US?  It seems ridiculous to purchase them from Red Wing Amsterdam/Berlin - at a price considerably higher  - when they are made here in the US.

How do the wabasha chukka boots fit? It says the only option available is E. I wear a size 9 in Jack Purcell's, 10 in Air Jordan's (1's, 4's, 11's).

Dj5h1fT, go with a size 9 in the Wabasha.

buzzlulu I talked with my RW rep last week about picking a few pairs of the 4558 and apparently they had been an exclusive to another US retailer. I don't believe they are still stocking them, so I am working on getting a few pairs in for the store. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Thanks  - keep me in the loop.  I will see what Park& Bond ends up shipping me for  - it might be an 8131 - than again it might not and it will go back.  I am looking for a 4558 type color.

My first pair of RW's - do most people wear the 6" or 8" irish setter types?

Anyone else have shit luck with Red Wing laces? All three pairs I've bought have had broken snapped laces in under 3 months...
