Garage/Surf Rock,

if you get a chance and your boots are worn-in where you like 'em, could you post a pic? It'd be cool to see the effect of your routine. I believe I'll pickup some Mink Oil. Thanks

Sure, I'll post a pic sometime in the next week. I think they look their best a few days after my usual mink oil polishing. You can see some of the scuffs and the darkness that's set in at the creases.

I've been using the Kiwi cordovan colour polish with good results so far on the black cherry.

I thought the RWxJ Crew's looked a little unbalanced b/c of the thick lug sole, adn the 875 I just can;t deal with the crepe sole - but the upper was exactly what I had in my mind when I went looking for new boots. Through the magic of the Intercom, err, 'Net, I found some RW 1908's via cultizm. Moc Toe in Horween dark brown (not chestnut brown, but not as light as the lighter J. Crew color either) just a rich almost saddle brown. Soles are a lower profile 2-piece over leather mid-sole.

Cultizm was very easy and super fast.

They are a little stingy on the initial break-in, and probably favor flatter feet than mine, but they definitely are a "proto-boot" to my mind. I like em 'em with skanky cuffed jeans, but they look great with very beat up khakis as well.

haha, I hear you. I mostly wear mine at night for now since they're new and "pop" so much. It also depends on the pant\\jeans. Presumeably, when worn in and displaying more character, they'll look super all around.

it might be because you're just not used to them. wear them a few times around the house, to make sure that it just really doesn't fit your style.

imo, they can look good with anything from dark, straight leg jeans to relaxed fit, distressed jeans. after all, we are wearing them for fashion, but can look good with the original intent of workwear.

they are the 9011/gentleman's traveler black cherry.

well i wear them with my 5EPxSF, ande whalls, and APC NS. they really look clownish and i feel like a cowboy. i will take pics. they are super stiff too, feels like almost too stiff? like i dont see how i can break them in.

i'm not too sure if i want to break them in even if they'll look better. because what if i ultimately end up not liking them, i will have a problem returning them.

might as well not wear them if they bother you. But hopefully Surf\\Garage Rock will post his pics - I'll bet they will help. My 9011 have cast a sort of clownish hint, but really, if you like the fit, the stiffness will go away in a few days. The looks like Sticktree said might be a mind game until it all comes together.

Conversely, get a pair of Alden laceup boots in front of you, plus a couple extra hundred bucks and you might be way ahead that way. Different worlds, both good.

please do post a photo. i've been wearing them every day to class ever since i received them (about a week now), and i'm just starting to appreciate the aesthetic. on top of that, they're still not fully broken in yet. i can't seem to get used to wearing my slim shoes now, like chucks or purcells
