Clothing database software

This topic occasionally appears and now it's my turn apparently.

Has anyone on SF played around with or actually uses a database system to organize their clothes and use it to figure out what to wear?

Has anyone created a template with fields like photo, last worn, description, last worn with? I've been playing around with the idea of putting something together -- after finding nothing on the web on point -- but if someone has already invented the wheel then there is little reason for me to do so.

There already is such a product under development, according to news stories that would have to be dug out of a virtual stack. It involves tiny electronics attached to clothing items. Probably no "Clothing butler" type of software will ever be very popular.

I actually hacked together something like that for one of my websites. The database part can actually be quite easily done with something like Gallery 2 or really any gallery-type software. Photograph everything you have, use meta tagging on the jpgs themselves with a specific terminology to keep things organized. Then use a shopping cart system for outfits.

They can just piggy back on RFDI chips that are in a lot of clothes already. Mostly used for stock and inventory checks in large consignments and warehousing. Once into stores they are not used any more as stores usually have propritary systems still barcode based. Innfact RFDI can be geolocalized to. That is something that brings in the "Bigbrother", and EFF and the likes. For the OP, i think i would try modifying some of the Wine storage databases. Il look for the link of mine, there are several others too. Speed

This post reminded me of that scene in Clueless and that was over ten years ago...

I found it. It's called Dress Assistant, but it's only for a Mac. I might try it out. It'll give me an excuse to shop so that I can enter more data.

No, fashion would be borning if someone else were to decide what i wear each day. If you pick something out the night before and have it ready to wear you will save just as much time as any computer ever could and look less lazy doing it.

I don't think anyone is looking for software that will pick an outfit for them, merely one that will help people get a handle on their wardrobe. Recently a bar in one my closets collapsed and I was forced to take everything out to repair it. I found clothes that I didn't even know I owned and I had only bought them within the past two years. A database would allow me and other people with a sizable wardrobe to actually know what they own. I have a wardrobe that spans multiple closets and two floors -- it isn't a question of laziness but coordination of multiple locations.

A few years back, when I had to wear a suit everyday, I used an excel spreadsheet to record what I wore when. My wardrobe was not very robust, so it was useful.

my wardrobe isn't that big yet, but i'm a computer geek and even i think the idea is ridiculous unless your wardrobe spans multiple houses. I have photos of everything, but only for insurance purposes should my place go up in smoke one day. are you really gonna go to the computer evry day to get dressed? i think that reorganizing your closets would be more fruitful.

There's a version for PC too.

It must suck living your life according to a standard formula. Don't let the robots win!

I have seen people try to attempt to make software and websites that allow people to choose different outfits and suggest outfits for the user. All of the software and websites that i have seen have sucked horribly and i think could do a lot better job. The only difficulty is designing a really good one. But if one did exist i think that it would be very popular. I am in the process of of designing my own in hopes that a lot of people will use it. Most people hate to pick outfits out everyday. People have posted that it is a waste of time but, they also dont realize that this would mostly be used by girls. Every girl that i know of takes forever picking outfits out.

I can understand that. Like a lot of men I have problems with greens, browns and greys.
