that trade doesnt make sense now but i think the future it will..... Minnesota did a trade like that to the Giants were they gave up their big name cather in Pierzynski for the 2 no names of Liriano and Joe Nathan...... Too bad my team, the Texas Rangers, cant make trade like that.

I don't see why everyone is saying this is a steal. The trade is basically:

Four good prospects vs. 1 year of Johan Santana

That's it. Other than that, the Mets are paying him free agent money for an extension. It's not like the trade was 4 prospects for Santana, period. You have to take into account contract length. All the Twins would have Santana for is one year. Getting some decent prospects for him is a good deal.

1 year of Santana and the two first round picks the Twins would have gotten had he left in free agency.

Fair enough. I still think it wasn't the steal that everyone is claiming. And I am a Mets fan...

Good for the Twins. Would have been far too expensive to keep him too much longer. And really what do the Twins have to show for him anyway...

After the crappy day at work I had today it was nice to come home to the news that my Mets have done something right.

The Mets will tank anyway so I am not worried. Go Tigers!!!!!! I saw a column that had the Tigers picked as the 5th best team in the AL. That was utter garbage. 2008 is our year.

Why, they got a fast centerfielder who cant hit, a pitcher coming off Tommy John surgery and two teenagers, who wont contribute for years if they do at all. Seems like a bad deal when you factor in the Sox/Yankees offers. I would be pissed if I were Cashman/Epstein and found out that these were the prospects it took to get a deal done when Smith was trying to get the 2nd best and then some prospects from their teams. I mean, the Indians scouts had Lester at #2 behind Beckett as the best pitcher on the Sox, and they could have gotten Crisp to replace Hunter. Same with the Yankee deal... Smith overplayed his hand, and pissed off the NL GM's and that's what he gets.

Well, I'm glad, I finally have a reason to watch the Mets besides Pedro, and I get to see the prospects (Sox & Yankees) show what they got.

Sucks too for Indians fans, I bet CC is watching ESPN waiting to find out Santana's contract with $$'s in his eyes...

You're going to make Jose Reyes and David Wright cry.

^ He also forgot Beltran. Or Billy Wagner throwing 100 AND still blowing saves. Or Glavine bailing himself out of holes again and again...

Edit: oops, Glavine did leave

^True, except Glavine's back with Atlanta now.

Yeah too bad Glavine couldn't bail himself out of a hole in the last game of the season.
