Of course not. This is Apple we are talking about here.

Thread Starter
I have a new HD TV and it kills me to spend 750-1200 a year for the cable. I was wondering if I can watch my HD stories from the Apple TV.

Or does anyone have a good way to circumvent the cable or directv fees (pirating, not an option).

Since you live in LA and SF, you should also consider getting an antenna to watch over-the-air (OTA) HD, which is free and plentiful in both cities. OTA HD is higher quality than what cable or satellite can give you, and only hard HD media like HD-DVD and BD are better.

AppleTV and iTunes work great for paying just for the shows you want to watch --- many of my friends are in the same boat as you, and there's no OTA transmission, SD or HD, where we live, so they just watch what they want from the iTunes store.

BTW, the HD update for AppleTV probably won't be out for another couple of weeks.

[quote=Tokyo Slim;861546]This is what I don't get.

There's kind of a pie-in-the-sky optimism when it comes to direct download replacing hard media. What makes you think that in five years, people are going to throw away the DVD players, Blu-Ray players, home entertainment libraries, and etc. that they've been building for like... 13 years now?

I agree. It is the same way cell companies though people would abondon home phone service (land lines/VOIP), well it has happened on a small scale, but nowhere as quick as they thought. So, digital media will not canabilize hard media or cable for that matter, but there will always be that subset who be digital only.

I see. Basically, you can't address my points. So what you did was pick an arbitrary number (5) and give a ridiculous response (time solves all problems). Well to continue the ridiculous responses, I will have you know that I took my time machine 5 years into the future and you sir, are wrong. Wrong, I say. Wrong.
